So what's going on? On the same day we had the media crowing over the right to free speech and most of the Western World marching for it, we have had one person thrown out of the BB House, and another on a warning because they chose to exercise it.

So, are we for it or against it? If we are for it, then we have to accept it in it's entirety and reinstate poor Ken. If we are against it, then what the hell we're all those folks marching and protesting for?

Anybody know?

We don't have absolute free speech, never have within a lawful society, never will....and that's a good thing.

We have "freedom" of speech within the law. i.e. Say what you want but if it's illegal then you'll likely face legal repercussions.

And in BB they also have their own rules which if broken might result in a contestant being removed. It's the same principle as your workplace possibly having it's own set of rules too (in addition to the laws of the land).

You have freedom of speech, not freedom from consequence. Say what you like, but just as you're free to speak, your boss is free to fire you.

By the way, not every country has free speech.

Freedom of speech? Really? Didn't think there was such a thing nowadays. Roll eyes.

Sorry, but anybody who offends me in any way should be prosecuted. It is my right not to be offended.

As much as it is Ken's right and Jeremy's to be a dirty perv or racist old git (ken) it is our right to not see that as appropriate behaviour. We didn't suffer years of reform and liberation for women and ethnic groups to just bolt back to the 1940s (or earlier) and have the same insults thrown up that were used so hurtfully then.

Besides fatist is the new racist - like Katie does - you can pick on anyone then!

This.

It seems a lot of people have trouble understanding this.

Most liberals are all for free speech....as long as it's something they agree with.

You're just making endless assumptions based on your own beliefs. It is tedious.

Just because someone opposes your view, doesn't mean their view isn't valid.

If you believe so much in free speech, then you need to let everyone have their chance to voice their opinions, and stop making sweeping statements based on nothing but conjecture.

We have freedom of speech but there are limits applied by law where we do not have the right to use racist or homophobic language to others which IMO is a good thing
I wonder what it is that the people bemoaning the lack of free speech want to say. Could it possibly be that they want the right to racially abuse others as and when they like?

When have I not let someone not voice their opinions?
If someone disagrees with me, it's my right to say I think they are completely wrong.
And no, if they are wrong, then their view isn't valid. They are allowed their view, but I can tell them how wrong it is.

I wish everyone was as honest as me with their opinions rather than seeing what bandwagon is popular at the moment and seeing what they should or shouldn't pretend to be offended by.

Ken signed a contract when he entered the Big Brother house, agreeing to follow the rules of Big Brother. He broke those rules, breached his contract, and was kicked out. Not a free speech issue at all.

Putting words in other people's mouths is offensive.

There is a difference between free speech and harassment. I wait to see events for myself before I make up my mind.

You are not supposed to have free speech in the BB house. Have people forgotten the whole concept of the show? Big Brother is suppose to control everything you say and do. That's why there is a rule book.
