Hello,

does anyone have any idea on what might be the problem here? I've got a Foxsat-HDR, which has worked pretty well for many years. A couple of months ago, it exhibited this issue, but recovered overnight. It's now back and won't recover!

Boot takes a very long time, and once booted, there is no TV signal. Both tuners show 0%. Black screen on every channel, but you can change channel.

Everything else seems to work - you can watch and delete recordings etc.

Latest software, though the loader is an iteration old.

Both satellite cables are still firmly connected, at both ends. (And it seems unlikely that both cables/tuners/LNBs would fail in tandem and recover in tandem!)

Anyone got any clues?

Most obvious thing that comes to mind is has your dish got out of alignment with the satellites? Specially with the heavy winds we've been having recently.

The easiest way to tell if it's a problem with your Foxsat is to connect a different satellite receiver to your dish & TV.
If the problem is still there then it must be a problem with cabling, the dish or the LNB, then you'd need to get those checked out.
If the other satellite box works then it could be your Foxsat has a problem.

Alternatively take your Foxsat to a friend's or neighbours house who have Freesat or Sky and try connecting it to their dish, if it works you know either your dish is out of alignment (quite possible due to recent strong winds) or your LNB has failed.

Thanks, both good suggestions. I didn't think down that those lines, as the dish is pretty secure, and in a fairly sheltered position. Also, last time it happened, it came back to life, and back to 100% signal strength. So it would seem odd that it had been blown back to the correct position!

I'll have a check though. It's the next easiest/cheapest option!

I bought a Humax HDR 1000S, and it works fine. So I know it's the Foxsat HDR that's gone up the spout.

This is actually the third Humax box that has died on me - two Freesat PVRs and now this. Still like the products, but it's a bit boring!

I'll post elsewhere about a finding an easy way to use the recordings off the Foxsat box - Humax recommended a factory reset, now I can't move beyond the enter postcode page in setup as it hasn't got a satellite signal, so I can't even use it to play old recordings!

Connect it temporarily to the cables used for your hdr-1000s to set it up. Assuming you didn't have the custom firmware and Nowsters patch you can only watch SD recordings other than by directly watching them using the Foxsat.

You can copy these to a PC by removing the HDD, dropping it into a hard disk caddy connected by usb. A driver is needed to read the drive on a PC (EXT2FS).
