Hi all
I wonder if you can help. I'm looking for a TV that passes through 5.1 signal from the optical out port?
At the moment all my devices (consoles, set top box etc) all have their own optical and I'm using a switch to select which one to use in my home cinema 5.1 system,
I've googled and found some old threads here but the models listed are all now discontinued.
I'm looking for a 40 inch model.
I'm not sure what the technical definition of this is in a television so im finding it hard to see on the technical specs on manufacturers websites.
Many thanks!
Daniel

Pretty sure most decent TVs will have passthrough. If you stick to the top makes, Sony and Panasonic at the top end and LG and Samsung in the middle I would doubt you'd go far wrong.

The LG TV I've got (http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-42LN575V) has passthrough though I see it is no longer available. Nearest equivalent is probably http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-42LB585V.

Mind you you'll struggle to find any mention of surround passthrough in the manual.

NB passtorough may only work with "standard" Dolby Digital or DTS up to 5.1 channels. If the source uses an enhanced surround format the optical out may not have the bandwidth to cope.

Thanks chrisjr

That LG one looks good but can only find it in silver? Is there black equivalent? My brother has just bought a new 49 inch LG, black, with it in.

I was slightly under the impression that it was only the larger screens that had it but am thinking that seems a bit daft. Screen size shouldn't affect it surely/
