Hi guys,

- Total smartphone revenue was up 5.4% YOY. Now over £4,500m.
- Internet sales accounted for over 30% of the total market. Brick and mortar store sales accounted for over 20 million units with over 7 million of that number being sold directly by network stores.
- Total mobile penetration now at 140% in 2014.
- More than 50 million contract customers and over 33 million pay as you go customers.
- Total number of mobile broadband subscribers exceeded 5 million in 2014.
- Blended ARPU is around ~£15.

- 2G Only still accounts for ~20% of total subscriptions.

Im guess this is blended over all networks. I would expect the majority of 2G only subscriptions will be on O2 with Three being zero.

yeh, works out to about ~16 million registered subscriptions using a 2G phone.

Bear in mind that the UK population is around ~65m at the moment, and the total number of mobile subscriptions is ~84m. So what that means is some people have maybe 2, 3 or even more subscriptions to themselves. No doubt it's these second or third lines that are mostly being used in 2G only phones. Of course some people still have a 2G only phone for their primary SIM but it's hard to say just how many.

I personally know a few people who have a second phone (as a spare/throwaway) that is 2G and has it's own SIM.

Also, contract sales accounted for around ~16m units sold through which is less than last year. Seems more and more people are buying their own handsets SIM free.

Does this count payg sim cards that are stuffed away in a drawer somewhere (in which case I count for at least 8 accounts), or only active accounts?

Some people are just a bit "difficult" sometimes, I'm sure the majority will find the stats interesting.

Maybe he was looking for the CBB section and accidently opened the thread .

Interesting. Thanks for posting jabba.

2G Only connections will likely still remain 5-10% even when the networks prepare to switch it off in years to come most likely. Some people just hang on to ancient devices and never use them.

Depends on how you define 2G and 4G! Someone who wants this counts as a 4G customer as they get a 4G capable EE sim...

EE is an interesting one as they're a network.... yet they're also all 4G subscribers technically...

Japaul, do you have any thoughts on the statistics in the OP? In general I mean.

And of course Three have the highest penetration of 4G subscribers of any network as 100% of there customers have a 4G capable sim.. How many actually have a 4G phone and live in a 4G are might be silghtly less than 100% however.

Numbers and data are always good. It is what we infer from them that causes the problems.

I wonder what WP market share was last year in the UK?

But we know that ~36% of Three's userbase has a 4G phone and is classed as a 4G subscriber.
