Recommendations for a brush to groom a Persian cat with a thick coat please?

My persian cat Winston has a really thick coat and despises being brushed any advice on what type of brush to buy please? I'm thinking of buying a furminator but it might be no use for him. Any advice would be appreciated.

I bought a furminator for my long hair maine coon. It removes an astonishing amount of hair, but it's no good for removing tangles/knots etc. And kind of expensive if you have a cat, like mine, that doesn't really like being brushed. So I reverted back to a regular brush, and any knots get cut out now. He's a good groomer so thankfully, he doesn't get very knotty. The furminator is now used more for removing hairs from my fabric sofa. Which it's really good for!

Thanks orangebird for the reply it is much appreciated. I use a dry bath sponge for removing cat hair on upholstery that works quite well. Will have another look at brushes in Pets at Home tomorrow as his current brush is useless.
