Also just because your xbone is new don't write off getting external HDD, yes 500gb is fine to start with but think about how much you may own in the next 12-24 months, I purchased a 2tb external HDD, 500gb might sound a lot but it's seriously not that big when you look at the size of some of these next gen games, it'll soon fill up.

Link to my external HDD....

That's the same one I have.

This is pretty much it.
You can navigate the UI with it but it's not that hard with the controller either.
I find it handy for walking into a room and saying Xbox on if I'm going to be using Smartglass instead of the controller.

I also use the Xbox Fitness so I need the Kinect.
I actually have both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One setup and the Kinect 1 and Kinect 2 on the top of the TV.
How did you manage that?! Do they sit on top of each other or side by side (side by side would look odd wouldn't it - doesn't the Kinect need to be in the centre of the tv?!)

Thanks for that link - have put that HDD on my Amazon wishlist for future reference

I think the biggest inconvenience to not having Kinect is that to record a game clip you have to disrupt the gameplay for a few moments to record the clip by double pressing the xbox button and hitting x when you can just say "xbox record that" and hope the console will listen to you.

Thats another thing - aren't the voice commands a little gimmicky and non responsive?

I've heard from reviews and forums that unless you say the exact 100% correct command (i.e. You need to say "Xbox, watch TV" instead of "Xbox, watch the TV"), most of the time, it won't work? I also don't like the thought that anyone in my family can walk into the room and say "Xbox ON", and my Xbox will switch on (which they WILL do - just to wind me up!!!)

They may be doing something about the voice commands. The latest survey on the preview programme was all about Kinect. (of course, all my answers were: I don't use Kinect) Maybe there'll be an update to it in the near future.

Has anyone also had any experience with the Xbox One official Media Remote from Microsoft?

I would want one primarily for using it to access Netflix and YouTube and also for watching the odd dvd on my Xbox One. I did look at the well known Harmony remote from Logitech (which seems to do just about everything!!), however, there is NO way I can justify paying around £140+ for a remote control - scandalous!!!!

I bought the official media remote as soon as it came out.

It's a shame it's IR and not Bluetooth, but other than that it's good.

As for "Xbox, on" - you can disable that in the settings.

You could try the Smartglass app on a tablet or phone for this and see how you get on with controlling it this way.

I have them side by side on their stands on top of the TV.
My TV is in the corner of the room otherwise I'd have them on shelves above it.

Doesn't really matter if the Kinect is dead centre as long as you're in it's view.
The camera on the Kinect 2 isn't even in the centre of the device anyway!

I use Smartglass too.
I don't think there's much point to the separate remote unless you've only got the controller and no smartphone/tablet.

...do these external hard drives for the X1, require a separate power source as well or are they powered by the console (never owned an external HD so wouldn't know! ) ?

I think most nowadays are powered by the console but it is still a good idea to check the product description to make sure that they are not externally powered.

I'm probably looking at buying the one linked to above :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Passport-Ult.../dp/B00CSH1B4M

Seems like a reasonable price for the 1TB option.

Looking through the 'questions answered' section on Amazon - some have stated that is indeed powered via USB.

So do these things need formatting to use with the Xbox One or anything, before using them or do you simply plug them into the console and the Xbox recognizes it as an external HD?

you have to make it work with the Xbox One,so it shows it as you combined hard drive space in the UI,But it walks you through it when you connect the drive

Using an external HDD has the additional benefit that if you have a friend with who also has an X1 and you want to play one of the games you own around there place you don't need to install the game again just take the external hard drive and game disc and plug them straight in and play.

Yeah, set up is easy.

You can also choose whether to use it as the default installation location or not.

Xbox.com has info: http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-o...manage-storage

Why not pay another £25 and get a 2TB drive instead of 1TB?

Yea, might do that - will have a think when I purchase my X1 at the end of this month!! I hoping I can still find an Assassins Creed bundle of some kind (probably without Kinect).

Xbox One Assassins Creed Bundle

Seems a pretty good deal....!!!!!

Anyone rate Forza? I've never been into driving games before (the last one I played was Project Gotham Racing on the 360!!!) - is it any good?!

Forza is excellent. Which one are you thinking of getting as there is Forza Motorsport 5 which is more circuit simulation, and then there is Forza Horizon 2 which is more arcade based.

I would say no harder than any other driving game.

Forza 5 is half price for Gold members if you're on the fence still.
If you like racing games then, in my humble opinion, you can't be without Forza. It's the best rack racer for consoles. Was on the fence about the original Horizon but ended up loving it.
If you do decide to take a punt on either franchise make sure to sign up to the Forza reward scheme.
