Possible cancer diagnosis

We took our 9 year old Scottish Terrier for some dental treatment yesterday and when they did the blood test before putting him under they found some anomylies with the results which indicated he had liver problems.

They took some bloods which we'll get the results of in a couple of days and did an ultra sound & xrays which show that he's got numerous masses internally so the prognosis isn't looking good.

He's had no symptoms at all his appetite has been normal, drinking normal he had a touch of an upset tummy over Xmas but I put that down to him eating crap.

Has anyone else gone through this. We've sort of decided we don't want him to go through any intrusive tests once the final results come through so we need to sort out what to do next

Very sorry to hear that but don't give up too soon, he will let you know when he is ready to go IMO.

One of ours was diagnosed and we were told only a few weeks to live, he was fine for a further 6 years and finally died of nothing to do with the cancer !
So prepare yourself obviously but don't give up before you need to.

So sorry, I think you are right not to go for invasive treatment. One thing to keep in mind is that they don't know they're ill, they live in the moment and can stay well for a long time. Lots of good wishes for him x

Our little one had pre- op bloods for an eye op - ulcer, and her liver readings were so bad the eye specialist wouldn't do it as he said she wouldn't wake up again. I got all upset, rushed her to my vet for more bloods but xrays and scans were ruled out as sedation was too risky. The detailed bloods were abnormal but she like your dog wasn't showing any signs and she went on to live nearly 4 more years and had a good quality of life until the last few weeks.
The eye ulcer which she'd had for 2 mths suddenly healed itself too!

My 14 year old dog was given 3-6 months to live over a year ago. Her liver values were through the roof and an ultrasound revealed nodules on her liver. In fact there wasn't much healthy liver left. Because of other issues they can't do a biopsy and an X ray is risky so they don't know if it is cancer. But with careful diet and supplementation she is doing fine. Every day is a bonus.
Feel free to pm me.

We've had the blood test results and his liver function is "moderate" so he's on Hill prescription food to try and improve his liver function and back for more blood tests in 3 weeks. He seems to be taking to the change in food ok the only thing we're struggling with is treats as all the dogs normally get a small treat when they had their walk I've read cottage cheese is good for dogs with liver problems but does anyone have any other suggestions

With liver disease I believe more protein and fat are suggested, so cheeses, meats etc may be the way to go. Lots of things higher in protein so shouldn't be too hard to find something considered a treat !
