The diary room is just awful!

The diary room, for many of the C5 series and the last one on C4, is so uncomfortable looking and so uninviting. I thought the last civilian / celebrity diary room was the worst, but I think this one takes the biscuit for worst diary room of all time.

Back in the day, the diary room always just featured a really big chair and minimalistic background, which in my opinion would provide a more relaxed atmosphere where the housemates could sit back and express their thoughts and feelings naturally. It also was a place that could easily be transformed and was the room where some classic BB moments happened. It was the place that made Nikki a classic housemate, because it was a place where she could unwind and say what she thought. Also, many of the previous series, like BB5, 6 & 7 for example, there was soooo many moments where the housemates would just come in, speak for ages, and leave – sometimes without any response from Big Brother at all. Now the conversation in the diary feels unnatural and forced by Big Brother, and I think the design is a big cause of this.

The previous diary room chair was so bad for this because it featured a monitor in the middle of it, so the housemates couldn’t even sit back and relax on it properly. This current one by far the worst ever! I was prompted the write this after seeing Nadia having a forced conversation with BB whist leaning forward, with her neck and head down in the chair to avoid getting poked and stabbed by a bit of sharp plywood. Hopefully the diary room will be improved, with many other areas of the house design, twists, game-play etc, for the next season.

I don't get the monologues in there. I understand when they're in there to be asked stuff, but when they go in to be asked how they are, it just seems aimless waffle. Hilton, for example, announcing he won't allow something to happen if it should happen. Well, thanks for that. Can't there just be a really loud yawn played, followed by a silent shot of their bewildered faces?

I think they should move the diary room downstairs and also have a larger chair which can fit a few house mates on at once. That might encourage them to go in more.

And specifically say that everything will be confidential all series so we can see people's true colours.

This is another problem they have with this room. If you watched any of the last series and then entered the house yourself, you'd be wary that anything you say in there is potentially / more than likely going to be used against you and broadcast to the rest of the house.

It really is hideous. It looks like the set was made at the local primary school art department, by the children, for their Christmas production!
