I don't think having one male pro in the 18-21 age range would make it a kiddie show. They've had younger female pros - Witney and Lindsay etc. I'm sure Mark will be a great teacher and if it was a straight documentary about learning to dance I don't think anyone would have a problem with it. Rightly or wrongly, from what I've read a lot of people do see an 'ick factor' with the Mark/Willow partnership because its in the context of DWTS with its sexy costumes and dancing and showmances, which just seems an unnecessary handicap to start off with.
I think memmh was suggesting a junior ballroom pro close to Willow's own age (under 18 presumably). I honestly think you need an older person to guide the celebs through the whole thing (not just the learning to dance part) and also Witney and Lindsay were in the troupe and knew the show well before getting a celeb, so I would think that helps. That said, I didn't think Witney and Lindsay's experiences as teaching pros were completely plain sailing. Witney seems a much more forward and outgoing character than Lindsay, but I'd say they both struggled with immature partners. Witney came into her own with Drew in switch up week and was great with Alfonso. Both considerably older than her. (Not sure you can conclude anything from that really, btw, I just found it interesting )

If the pro was really close to Willow in age they might look like potential boyfriend material, and I'd hate for us to go there!

As for unnecessary handicaps from the off - just playing devil's advocate, because as I've already said, I'm not interested in watching kids on the show - you could say the same of the older contestants, the none dancing ones and the ones with physical challenges to overcome.

I only wish the show was as accommodating to the oldsters as they seem to be with the young 'uns. They ensure the dances and costumes are age appropriate for the teens, but the over sixties no longer have much in the way of ballroom dances in which to (potentially) shine. All that contempo-salsambachajive malarkey's no good for old knees and backs.....

True I guess there would be issues either way. I suppose if the viewers really don't react well to it they won't have another under 16 contestant on anyway.

I agree. I suppose it doesn't suit the demographic they're aiming for these days to help the older contestants to do well, but it would be nice to even the playing field out slightly and give them dances they have a chance to look good in. Then again, if they've watched the show at all recently they presumably know what they're signing up for. If they never watch the show and are just doing it for the money or exposure they perhaps don't care

It looks like its Chris Soules from the Bachelor, but I'm not sure DWTS have officially confirmed it yet

Yes, I was meaning a pro partner who is about 17 or 18, and certainly under 20.

However - and this would preclude a younger pro partner - you're right that it's better when a new pro starts off in the dance troupe, in order to become familiar with what the show is about off-camera and especially how to mentor a celeb partner. That was the problem with Keo last year, I felt - he's a great dancer but he didn't understand how to mentor a complete novice.

Have any of you been looking at the rehearsal videos?

https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC00wKD6hPhrCaSGgZSJO9qA
Thanks to OP for uploading these.

I've only dipped into a few of them. Had a little look at the latest Riker/Allison one and just had to say how annoying Allison is! (And there I was, thinking it would be Riker and his hairdo that would irritate me ). She seems to be teaching a jazz or contemporary routine which ought to be her strong suit, but her teaching style is so confusing. Last season I thought she made all the routines about herself and this training footage makes me think we'll see more of the same.

Hi Soupy

Yes thanks again, to OP for uploading footage.

I haven't even bothered to watch the second round of R/A, she annoyed the heck out of me first time round. My thoughts after watching first session, were an absolute beginner would have had difficulty understanding, what she was trying to teach them, no wonder it was car crash last season. Lucky for her Riker has had training and can probably follow her, or teach her. She was hyper, hyper, which got on my last nerve. I will say no more, as ultimately TPTB employed her.

I missed Foo and Emma's first lot of training, so I was interested to see what his abilities were. Think he will be good at performance and selling the dance, thought he was a bit rough on technique, finesse and posture, hoping he can nail it by next week. Enjoyed watching Emma's teaching.

I have enjoyed Kym and Robert more than I thought, although he was a bit too 'hands on' in the second session!!!!

Charlotte and Keo, I wax and wane with them, I liked the first training footage. I went off her a bit in the second, she was whiney and a bit self-absorbed, and Keo seemed to be trying to over compensate for her. The third session was an improvement.

I'm hoping we will see more couples before the start of the show, how likely that is, probably not very!!!

Small bit of footage of Noah and Sharna.

I hope he doesn't get injured, the photos I've seen of him, show him doing lifts and tricks, some of them look like a strain on his body.

It wouldn't be so bad if they would pair the really young contestants with Junior Ballroom/Latin champions, who are the same sort of age as the young contestants themselves.
Absolutely.

Giving her Mark Ballas.

What on earth where they thinking!!!!

Sure sounds like she asked for him. From Willow's blog:

"Needless, to say my grandmother is freaked out because they wouldn’t miss an episode of “Dancing with the Stars.” They were so excited they insisted we open a bottle of champagne, and yes, I had a sip and it tasted awful! I have no idea why adults drink champagne—yeah, let’s celebrate something really exciting by drinking this terrible tasting stuff, ewww! Anyway, a week later my great-grandmother had to go to the hospital with chest pains. I’m like, I hope she isn’t TOO excited about this whole dancing thing! Don’t worry, it was just a coincidence. She’s okay. It was just bad heartburn according to the doctors.

"Next, I gotta prepare for this! I started stretching immediately, which has got to help, right? I also started watching YouTube videos of “Dancing with the Stars.” I loved watching the show in the past, but now I can study dancers from a bunch of years. Yeah, this is what actors do; they study people who are experts at things. Jennifer actually learned to shoot a bow and arrow for “The Hunger Games.” I’m going to have to learn to dance for this show! But the more I watched YouTube videos, the more I realized these dancers are incredible. Oh God, what have I done! I said yes BEFORE watching these videos, am I insane?

"Recently I got to meet my pro dancer partner. I was VERY nervous. In my head, I was hoping for Mark Ballas but wondering who it would be. They brought the pro in through the door of the dance studio, and I don’t think I breathed for about a minute. When I saw him, I freaked out! I think I screamed but not sure. . . Mark Ballas, yeah!"

Hi Karma

Am in complete agreement about Allison. The woman needs to calm down.

I really liked what I saw from Emma and Foo. She brings a good balance of chatty fun and hard work. Her teaching seemed really clear too and Foo was very diligent. Hee! I like this team.

Saw some of Keo and Charlotte's first two and know what you mean about her being a bit whiny, but Keo got on my nerves a bit. He seemed obsessed with speaking to camera and 'being on telly'. I do like watching him move though and want to stay open minded about them. Hope they stay a while.

Thought (from the little I've seen) that Val and Rumer were being a bit precious.

I must take look at Kym and Robert and Sharna and Noah and I haven't found a version of Del Boy and Nastia's that I can view yet.

Allison still doesn't understand it's supposed to be about the celebrity. I couldn't take much more of her saying she's part of R6 now - "GIVE ME SOME LOVE!" - and "That's because I'm a great teacher." Um, how about he could probably teach her some ballroom, he has competed in ballroom before.

The international version of Del Boy and Nastia's rehearsal is on Daily Motion - similar to YouTube but less finicky - and linked on either PureDWTS and/or PDH - BUT the best tip I found when I got the "The uploader hasn't made this video available in your country" message - was to download proxtube.com, which adds a little red icon to the top of your browser bar, and once you click on the title of ANY blocked video, it automatically allows you to view the video!

Clicking on the red icon disables it, according to popup message when you hover over it.

Thanks Dancefan. I did have a quick look on Daily Motion, but obviously hadn't looked hard enough. Will take another look later.

Well this is interesting.

Say hello to @GethincJones ... The new host of @DWTSAllAccess. #DWTS20
Nothing about Lacey. I wonder if he is hosting solo or if he will have a partner?

Gethin Jones. What a strange fit for DWTS. Not really seen or heard much about him for ages - has he been working in the US?

'Chats' with Willow and Mark and Riker and Irritating Woman

Aw. Willow seems really sweet. (Still don't wants kids on the show, though ).

Riker's hair is the pits, but he seems nice.
