Hi there,

Please, I'm a beginner with technology, so bear with me.

My Nexus 4 over the last couple of days has really struggled to connect to my BT wifi hub. My laptop has no problems and my Nexus 7 is fine so something seems to be going on with the phone itself. It connects occassionally but constantly drops off. Most of the time the icon is sat with an exclamation mark beside it.

I've pulled the power cable out of the hub and reconnected it. I've tried to "forget" the wifi and input my password again but nothing is making much difference. I've never had any problems with it over the last 12 months so I'm not sure what's going on.

My phone is not rooted and is up-to-date with software. We have snow at the moment but I assume the fact the laptop and Nexus 7 is working rules weather out. We did move our BT box a meter along the wall about 10 days ago but everything else is running ok.

I've also tried to turn the wifi off on the phone and back on again.

Can anyone offer some simple things I could try?

Steph

The Nexus 4 has some problems with 5GHz wifi, which your hub is broadcasting as well as the standard 2.4GHz.

Go to settings, wifi, then the three dots at the top right, advanced, wi-fi frequency band, and select 2.4GHz only.

See if that resolves the problem.

Hi there, many thanks for your reply. It was set on automatic so I've changed it to 2.4 GHz only now.

It still seems painfully slow and when I try to connect to anything I just get the refresh circular button - by the time it thinks about loading the page the phone has gone to sleep and kicked me out of what I'm trying to log in to.

Are there any other suggestions out there? It is still bringing up my Wifi hub with the exclamation mark most of the time and when it doesn't it fails to load the page anyway.

All other devices are working as normal.

I assume you have switched the hub off and on again?

I have thank you. I pulled the plug out from the wall (instead of just out back of hub) and, touch wood, so far it's running again. Probably won't last long but relieved!

I've always had trouble connecting my Nexus 4 reliably to my home hub. Strangely, what works for me is to select 5GHz only in the wifi options. I realise that's the opposite of the advice above, but like I say, it works for me.

haveyou recently updated the OS. My Nexus 4 wifi has been p**s poor since upgrading to lollipop. When enabled the wifi settings go unresponsive it generally takes a couple of minutes to actually connect.

I'll let you know whether or not I get issues with the HH5, I'm switching to BT next week.

The nexus 4 in my house seems to work fine with the HH5, on 2.4ghz.
