Good news. Two parters give us more chance of better characterisation, better storytelling, better pacing and we get a cliff hanger - a vital part of Doctor Who!

Awesome, I'm a big fan of Whithouse's writing for both Doctor Who and Being Human.

Fantastic news.

If anyone deserved a two parter, it was definitely Whithouse.

That's kind of scary! In my wishlist of writers for Series 9, I included Whithouse for a two-parter, and I also predicted that he would as well!

It's good news though, I've enjoyed all of his episodes so far. With all of his Being Human colleagues also working on the show, I'm now living in hope he may eventually succeed Moffat. He's always been my preferred candidate - he's written a contemporary story, historical stories, stories involving location filming and now a two-parter too. Combined with his experience of showrunning, and his fascinating approach of pitting sci-fi against faith (against Moffat's sci-fi against fantasy, and RTD's sci-fi against domestic drama) in a lot of his stories (School Reunion referred to childrens 'souls', God Complex is obvious, and Vampires and Mercy both had interesting undertones) I think he'd be great.

Series 9 is looking to be quite exciting!

Glad to see we are getting multiple 2 parters again.

Will it just be this and Moffat's 2 part finale* or will we be back up to three 2 parters in total?

*Of course I don't think we've actually had it confirmed that the last two episodes are a 2 parter just that there is a cliffhanger in the penultimate episode leading into the Finale.

I literally just cheered!
I love Toby Whithouse's work on Doctor Who (and Being Human for that matter) and I think the return of two-parters is very welcome.
Best news I've heard all day.

He wrote School Reunion which remains one of my top five new Who episodes since 2005. I am very excited about this news!

Pleased to here this. Really liked The God Complex, think it's a bit of a classic, and his other stories have been interesting. Will always have a soft spot for Vampires of Venice because it was the first scene I saw Matt properly in 'action' in a clip on on The Jonathan Ross Show before The Eleventh Hour and thought....now then!

That scene between David T and Anthony Head by the swimming pool sticks out, too. Good news.

Ahh this is great news. I want to squeal in excitement!

A two-parter will be interesting to see from him. Apart from Vampires in Venice which I personally found lacking in depth I've liked all the other stories he's done. He does dark really well. So bring scary on

Great news that we're getting more two parters! I can't help but think that this is Whithouses job application for show runner! And it could be fan reaction to see if he gets the job or not. No pressure then!

Mildly disappointing as Toby Whithouse is one of my least liked Doctor Who writers. The only one of his episodes I can really stand is 'The God Complex'. 'Vampires of Venice', 'School Reunion' and especially 'Town Called Mercy' are all in my 'can't stand to rewatch' category (and that isn't a very large category). I actually feel that 'A Town Called Mercy' was one of the key episodes in my girlfriend losing interest in watching the series, it was just so appallingly cringe-worthy. I'd probably rate it in my bottom ten episodes. 'Vampires of Venice' isn't too far behind.

This is the problem with two parters: it seems a good idea in principle to have a longer story but if it's a bad story then it's bad for two weeks running and if you didn't like part 1 there is big incentive to skip part 2. There's no factor of 'oh well; it looks like a good one next week', which is important because we all know the show can be very hit and miss.

I'm keen to see how many episodes Moffat is writing. I hope it is 5 at least. I felt short-changed with 4 last year, and that included a two-parter (I don't count the ones he had co-writers credit on).

Wow, are those his stories?

Loved The God Compkex

Still haven't brought myself to watch all of either Vampires of Venice or Town called Mercy
Not a fan of School Reunion, 'cept the Sarah Jane scene

Never watched Being Human, so can't judge him on that

Its a no from me ! Hopefully his S9 2 payer is a good one though
