Kate Bush with more of a mouth, both have done things there way on their terms for most of their careers and don't give a crap about critics but love their fans. Are they arguably difficult, pretentious, elusive, overly opinionated, emotionally volatile, prone to making odd or controversial statements that annoy and challenge their peers... certainly. Are they uniquele gifted writers and artists with distinct creative visions? Certainly. Do I think they'd be great company over coffee? No. Do I like their work? Yes.

I admire their discographies and skills even if they are a bit kooky and probably the kind of people that'd either be the life or death of a party depending on their mood.

Just read that on the BBC website and think it's out of order tying to impose vegetarian only food on those going to his gig.

The article also mentions he is playing near me (Nottingham Capital FM Arena) on 13 March, I wonder if they will comply with his demands.

before the smoking ban kicked in there were bands who would only play gigs at certain venues if they banned smoking for the evening

I know it's possible to go without food for several hours without dying, but refreshments are expected at these venues and things like burgers/hot dogs are among the most popular.

I can understand bands refusing to play gigs where smoking was allowed if they were indoor venues, especially small ones, due to passive smoking risks.

Morrissey gives vegetarians a very bad name.

There are two types of vegetarian: there are the ones that quietly chose to have a meat-free diet but understand that a majority of people do not (this is me), and then there are the ones who think they are morally superior to everyone else for being a veggie and constantly attempt to convert people and go into a tantrum when they realise they can't. Because of people like Morrissey, people assume most vegetarians fall into the latter description.

If Morrissey feels that strongly about the subject, then he should put out a statement saying: 'I no longer want any carnivores to attend my concerts or buy my records.'. But would he ever do that? Nope. If I was one of the Icelandics who were due to attend that gig, I would never bother listening to Morrissey again. What a knob.

The fact Morrissey refers to meat eaters, who make up the vast majority of the population, as 'cannibalistic' and 'blood lusting' just shows what a complete **** he is.

The difference being that second hand smoke can kill you. As far as I'm aware second hand meat can't.

Although Morrissey is clearly a borderline extremist regarding his views on animal rights, I don't think asking venues not to serve meat on the one night he's playing is a particularly extreme act in itself.

Not directly related, but I think Radiohead have refused to play festivals in recent years due to the particular festivals in question not using 'environmentally friendly' transport systems.

When I read all the accolades people write about Morrisey, I just need to listen to a song like Suedehead to remind myself how completely out of step I am with their opinions.

I can usually get why an artist appeals to people, but to me it is as if he is trying to be as bland as he possibly could be in order to take the p*ss out of the people who buy his music.

I do, it's a bizarre request. The vast majority of people in this country eat meat, why should his views be imposed on them?

He's not asking the whole population to stop eating meat for the night, he's asking a few thousand people who come to his see him play not to eat meat for the duration of the concert.

The venues that agree to his demands obviously consider the decision to be profitable and workable. The vast majority of the fans coming along to the show know the deal. I'd be surprised if your average Morrissey fan would find it bizarre the venue wasn't going to be serving meat on the night.

I'd also say that, as someone who has been to hundreds of gigs across the country over the past decade, eating at gigs isn't really a big part of our music culture. I rarely see people chowing down mid way through a set. So, I don't think it would inconvenience many of the audience.

You are completely missing the point. Why should the majority have to pander to the stupid whims of one person?

It's his show, if someone can't go without meat for a couple of hours then they have the option not to attend the show.

The venue becomes a vegetarian venue for the night. Plenty of concerts take place in vegetarian/vegan bars.
