I've been thinking of getting my nails done but I don't know what kind to go for.

I know that I don't want acrylics as they have to be refilled regularly and they're incredibly difficult to remove when you've decided that you don't want them anymore.

What other kinds are there aside from gel nails? I don't want something that requires trips to the salon every couple of weeks.

I'm no expert but your nails are constantly growing so whatever you had would need maintenance on a regular basis.

Your best bet is to ask a nail technician if there is something you can have that allows you to grow your natural nail underneath then when they've grown maybe go for shellac which is great?

Like lionsof66 said your nails are constantly growing so whatever you get done will need touching up fairly regularly. I get mine done with shellac every 3 weeks. Sometimes I could probably leave it 4 but my girl is fairly cheap and there are so many colours/options I like to get them refreshed.

I'm no nail expert either but perhaps if you go for shellac/gel in a French manicure style you could leave them longer as the growth wouldn't be so noticeable??

I had shellac on my nails 3 times and 3 times removed with the foils and remover that they use.
Fine until the 3rd time when my nails all broke off and one nail split vertically down to the cuticle,which has never happened to me before I can only put it down to the remover.

Meanwhile although the condition of my nails is improving,the split nail grows up but still has a split which catches.

If anyone has a hint of what I can use to temporally mend the split until finally it grows up properly I would be grateful.
