Xiaomi oh Xiaomi.

I do love this company.

Xiaomi today decided to show up every other smartphone manufacturer by releasing the worlds most powerful smartphone all for under £350. The Mi Note Pro is my dream smartphone and I will soon have one in my hands to replace my current (not so dreamy anymore) smartphone.

The Mi Note pro is a super thin 5.7" phone with some of the best specs you'll see this year. Lets start with the beautiful display manufactured by JDI, the 1440x2560 pixels screen uses amazing negative display technology to be very low power but at the same time produce the best visuals seen on a smartphone screen to date and a high 515ppi. The display is also topped with Corning gorilla glass 3 for ultimate toughness. Couple that with the all new Snapdragon 810, 4GB of LPDDR4 Memory (yes, LPDDR4) and 64GB of emmc 5.0 flash storage and you have a winner.

On the back of the phone is a 13 MP Sony camera with optical image stabilization, and a 4 MP UltraPixel front-facer with large two micron pixels. The phablet also has a Hi-fi audio with a dedicated ESS ES9018K2M sound processor, and two OPA1612 amp chips from Texas Instruments. Yes, it's better than the one used in the iPhone.

This smartphone looks great and has great internals, in fact one of the internals not mentioned above is the modem inside the phone. The Mi Note Pro supports DUAL SIM 4G LTE with cat 9 download speeds of up to 450Mbps. Add to that a 3100mAh battery and you've got the ultimate smartphone running Android 5.0.

There are so many great features added to the Note Pro that makes this phone a desirable one. Just the design of a 3D glass back panel shows how the designers are able to make a beautiful phone compared to designers of Samsung. The fact it's so thin is just an engineering marvel and really puts other companies to shame.

Sadly once again it won't be coming to the UK. Even if it was I would be probably put off by the 5.7 inch screen I prefer something in the 4.7-5.2 inch range.

I don't think the Mi Note plus is available yet but the lesser model the Mi Note is.

One source says Jan 27 for the Pro, another says March.

Yeh, can see it's too big but then they have the 5" Mi4 for those who don't want big screen.

For me it's good, well actually it's slightly too small imo as I'm used to 6" screen size at the moment.


Not out till March so won't be able to get one till then. In fact probably won't be able to get one for a long time after that as we may not have an FDD LTE version straight away plus demand will be through the roof anyway.

It runs MiUi which is a custom version of android, it looks similar to iOS from Apple or EMUI from Huawei but has a ton more features and is fully customisable.

I agree with you. Unless the battery and onboard storage is large enough for my requirements.

For example I have a Huawei Ascend Mate 7 with 4100mAh battery. I get 10 hours ON SCREEN time.

I can't get that with 2 batteries on my old phone. So in this case I don't mind the non-removable battery.

If Xiaomi get the battery life good on this phone, then again, don't mind the battery.

I do have to admit I'd prefer Micro SD and removable battery. But I can do without it if the built in storage + battery is good enough.

If it was say 16GB and 2000mAh battery then I couldn't put up with it at all.

It looks pretty and specs are better than the leading phablet devices in the market now. My only concern is the blatant copying of iOS gui, this phone wouldn't survive for 5 minutes without a lawsuit being filed. Being honest I can't see it leaving Chine or south east Asia, as I understand it Xiaomi has now become the 3rd largest mobile maker in the world. Seemingly it doesn't need to leave it shores to earn a tidy profity. Because of the way China's economic policy and internal market work, its unlikely Xiaomi would face any retribution from Apple. Anywhere else....then gloves will be off.

Eh, China are in introvert mode and are still outperforming the imperialists. Added to apple , lol, having no factories outside Asia (17 China 1 Taiwan as far as I mind) and any gloves to come off will see a jobless apple be the new blackberry inside 2017.

I know China is looking to diversifying its economy to a more consumption based model, as opposed to exports. The point I am making is outside of the Chinese market, Apple could go after anyone who infringes on their IPs. The thing with Apple, they contract out the manufacturing of their devices, they don't directly own a plant themselves. As a result of this they can move their operations (quite quickly I might add) to anywhere else that wants their business.

Apple do have factories outside Asia, in Brazil and the U.S.

On top of that, them suing a Chinese phone maker wouldnt have any impact on their using Chinese factories to manufacture their products.

MIUI is not a copy of iOS. It has been that ugly for years, I flashed it on my Orange San Francisco early in 2011 (and then quickly got rid of it). Apple copied MIUI for the look of iOI 7. It was so blatant.

The phone looks like a great piece of kit but the software looks atrocious.

In 2015 high end phones should not come with micro sd and removeable batteries as they should have sufficien capacity for both. I can see a place for micro sd at the low end.

looks too slim (yes there is such a thing as too slim) as others have said I think screen size a bit too big also.

Does it have sdcard slot, is the battery swappable? is the speaker back or front? good sound engine?

Screen resolution/size and cpu are not everything.

Granted the 4 gig ram is decent.

Another reason we won't see this outside of PRC is that it likely doesn't pay any royalties on the many patents that cover phone tech, it's likely why it's so cheap.

Does it have a jack plug socket? Didn't see it on the video.

I've had my MI3 for a couple of months now, the best phone ever and it updates about once a week. I got it from the Xiaomi European store for £200, so wont be upgrading for a couple of years, but will be looking at getting a note pro next.

Looks like Xiaomi will be launching version with TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE support.

Band 3 is a given, band 7 is likely and if band 20 is added then this is without a doubt my best phone ever.
