Ofcom Consultation on 5G spectrum above 6GHz
Ofcom are doing a consultation on spectrum for 5G only problem is its spectrum above 6GHz ![]() Not exactly building friendly spectrum so im not sure how useful this is going to be realistically. Consultation closes on 27th February 2015. Quote:
The exact nature of 5G is not yet defined, but to lay the foundations for its future introduction Ofcom needs to understand how it might use spectrum. 5G is likely to provide much faster mobile broadband speeds than the current generation of mobile technology and the use of large blocks of spectrum is likely to be important to achieve the fastest speeds. Large blocks of spectrum are difficult to find at lower frequencies therefore higher frequency bands, above 6 GHz for example, are likely to be important. 5G mobile is expected to be capable of delivering extremely fast data speeds - perhaps 10 to 50 Gbit/s - compared with today’s average 4G download speed of 15 Mbit/s. http://media.ofcom.org.uk/news/2015/...paign=6ghz-cfi http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php...trum-6ghz.html |

Ofcom have published an update on 5G. While frequencies above 6GHz are still being considered Ofcom are also thinking about 3.6 to 3.8GHz and 3.8 to 4.2GHz could be used for 5G.
