Does anyone here know the difference between a normal white loaf and the farmhouse loaf that is sold by major brands/supermarkets?

Do you have a preference?

Farmhouse often has oatmeal in it. Ordinary white loaf has no fat in it.

Farmhouse was made at a farm.

Farmhouse is just the name for the shape of loaf (square bottom domed top) like bloomer or split tin. If it's labeled as a white farmhouse then I'd expect the ingredients to be the same as any other shaped white loaf.

Farmhouse can mean whatever the shop wants it to mean.

I think it means that it's traditional shaped (not square), thick sliced, and has flour dusting on the outer crust

As others have said a farmhouse loaf is muffin-topped in that its top is risen and has overflowed the brim of the tin.

A 'tin' is a more squareish loaf, suited to making toast in a toaster.
