Three unlimited tethering on one plan confusion
Sorry to bring up ANOTHER Three tethering thread but Ive read on here that even if your an exsisting customer you will be subject to the new 4GB tethering limit.
I've just been into a Three store and the manager told me that if your an exsisting customer on the old one plan you will still have unlimited tethering. So which one is correct? |

Existing customers have it until their minimum term expires after which date Three will move them to the tariff with 4GB data. Very heavy users could potentially be moved over even earlier.

However, Three are moving customers off of the One Plan, once they are moved and are no longer One Plan customers they will have the tethering allowance of their new plan. |

I've been out of contract since July last year and I still have unlimited tethering, no text and no contact yet. I strongly suspect the heaviest users were moved off first.

If you're on "The One Plan" you will have unlimited tethering.
Three will be discontinuing the One Plan for all users in a phased approach and you will receive 30 days notice from when this will happen. The subscriber will receive a letter informing then that they will be moved over to a new SIM Only plan with a 4GB tethering limit with X amount of Mins/Texts at £X price. At this point the subscriber will have 30 days to either accept the new price plan, contact customer services to upgrade to a different price plan or cancel their contract with Three. So far a number of customers have been moved over and Three will continue contacting customers in time. All customers will be contacted and moved off the One Plan in due time and this will only happen to subscribers once they are out of contract. In this case some subscribers are still contracted till March 2016 and therefore they will not be moved over to a new plan until after their contract minimum term has come to an end. I hope the above clears things up. Don't believe anything you hear in a store... |

Ok I've got it. My upgrade is in July, so around that time I'll probably get a text telling me to move to another tariff or cancel I guess.
To be fair I'll probably save money if they move me off the one plan because I'm paying £26 per month and the only reason I stayed on the one plan was for the unlimited tethering, so if they want me to move then I'll downgrade my mins and texts and just go with the cheapest plan that has the 4GB tethering |

I think this as well.
As I've said before, it's everyone that'll be moved over. And it's pretty much random. |

OK thanks. It's just that my grandson uses that and he convinced me he was getting unlimited tethering.

Tethering and using your phone as a modem. The T&Cs say:Tethering is when you connect your phone to other devices over Wi-Fi or using a USB cable and use it as a modem to access the internet. Our Pay As You Go plans don't allow tethering. See our Pay As You Go Terms and Conditions for more information. If you're having problems accessing the internet after you've seen a warning message about tethering you just need to turn your phone off and back on again. Quote:
When using data, tethering a phone to a laptop for internet use, using the SIM in a Mobile Broadband Device or using hotspot functionality is not included.

On newer pay as you go SIM's, Three are trying to actively block tethering. So on a new SIM there is a higher chance that tethering won't work. However there are ways around the tethering block. |

Three still allow older pay as you go SIM cards to tether for some reason. They're not actively blocking tethering on those older SIM's yet. (officially not allowed in T&C)

Your post in bold makes it sound as if this not true, i'm a bit of a newbie to this tethering lark so i easy get baffled by what is allowed and what isn't, and as you've said before, we can't believe everything we're told by a salesman. |

I was thinking of going into to three store tomorrow for a new sim deal ( currently with 02 ) looking for 4GB data tethering, which is offered on their website.

Pay Monthly has a different set of T&C and has the 4GB tethering limit. |

Thank you again, this is maybe what I was thinking about, as I said this newish technology gazumps me a bit sometimes, ( wrong side of fifty for new tech ) but i'm trier and usually get there in the end, with a bit of help.
Just post here if you need advice about something and either I or someone else will get back to you. Lots of knowledgeable people in the mobile phones section here. The main difference between the two is that pay as you go is a top up service and SIM Only is paid by direct debit and in return you get x amount of mins/texts and data. |

There are no PAYG 'deals', it's just top up and buy an add-on which are £10/£15/£25 which last 30 days.

That's strange my contract is due to end at the end of this month yet Three haven't bothered giving me 30 days notice of this new plan to give me time to leave or sign up to the new Three Plan. Hmm. Worrying.
You won't be contacted day 1 your contract ends. You might have some time, or even quite a lot of time where you can remain rolling over on the One Plan out of contract. But if you stay rolling on the One Plan you will eventually be contacted. Could be today, could be in 3 months time. But you'll be given notice about the discontinuation of your plan. |
