The YouTube clip taken from live feed shows him saying he is going to start coughing and wake the housemates up. It's a deliberate act. He doesn't care about the housemates in that sense, has very little empathy with them and doesn't care about the consequences of his actions. Also his blogging too is very attention seeking - some of his blogs show that he doesn't care what effects his pronouncements will have on the lives of others e.g. outing people etc Hence he seems very shallow in nature. When I ran the unit just one person with Psychopathy could set the rest of the patients against each other and cause havoc if whichever person in charge didn't know how to manage it. He is causing havoc too. Perez knows what he is doing and doesn't care who gets hurt in the process e.g. Ken, Jeremy, Alex (all their careers can be harmed by his actions) He makes up his own rules and lives by them and doesn't seem to have much empathy with the group and others. Interesting but he reminds me of some of my best Psychopaths who are great at playing games and the game is always to win.

I wouldn't think he is psychotic - he doesn't show any evidence of hearing voices, seeing visions etc and he isn't totally out of touch with reality at all. He doesn't seem delusional to me either. He really did believe he was giving the public what they wanted till the boos on eviction night but he is aware enough to now know he is disliked. If he were deluded he would still believe the British Public loved him no matter what (Delusion meaning a false, fixed unshift able belief)

This is just my opinion and some of my observations. I am not a doctor and therefore not qualified to offer a medical opinion. AND as someone else has already said much more assessment is needed to make a proper diagnosis. My consultant used to ask one question when we took new patients, is the person mad or not mad and we knew what she meant i.e. psychotic or not psychotic. I would hazard a strong guess that Perez is not mad. He does however have fascinating behaviour!!! ”

.

Well explained, I agree with all of your comments.

I also wondered if Perez might be suffering. I was wondering what the rules are in the BB house regarding substances other than alcohol.

Histrionic Personality Disorder maybe?

Histrionic personality disorder is characterized by a long-standing pattern of attention seeking behaviour and extreme emotionality. Someone with histrionic personality disorder wants to be the centre of attention in any group of people, and feel uncomfortable when they are not. While often lively, interesting and sometimes dramatic, they have difficulty when people aren’t focused exclusively on them. People with this disorder may be perceived as being shallow, and may engage in sexually seductive or provocative behaviour to draw attention to themselves.

It's simple really...little Mario raised in a good Catholic family in the anti Castro very right wing environs of Miami really doesn't like himself and hasn't for many years...hence the hiding behind the "Perez" persona.

"Perez" enables him to behave in a way Mario would be too scared or too guilty to do, it gets him the attention/money that Mario could never get or achieve and if it turns out to be negative attention/nastiness that's all fine...because it proves and re-enforces to Mario what a worthless person underneath it all that he believes he really is.

LMSO. You sound like a shoe in for a BBBOTS psych. Made for the job I would say.

That or an Olympian if you can get them to adopt your chosen sport (above)

There is more than attention seeking, there is an indifference to the feelings of others. He is, you could say, not only a bellend but also a bastard.

In my unprofessional opinion and being a healthcare worker (don't panic, I work in a hospital, a porter) you appear to be suffering from Tourettes.

The World Health Organization's ICD-10 lists histrionic personality disorder as:[17]

A personality disorder characterized by:

shallow and labile affectivity,

self-dramatization,

theatricality,

exaggerated expression of emotions,

suggestibility,

egocentricity,

self-indulgence,

lack of consideration for others,

easily hurt feelings, and

continuous seeking for appreciation, excitement and attention.

So would you say he exhibits Completely Unique Narcissistic Tendencies? If only we could think of an acronym for those symptoms

Oh I like the Olympic sport. Modern twist on the classic pole vault.

BBOTS is probably the only place that would have if I eventually qualify hahah.

Unprofessional? I think porters are more than qualified to give me a psych eval! My boss would probably agree with theTourette's diagnoses, I'm like a balloon that slowly fills when we're with a client, as soon as we leave I'm released and fly about the room effing and jeffing.
I think she just keeps me around for comedy purposes.

I've got three psychology degrees but none of them specialize in personality disorders or mental health and I am not a 'psychologist' in the professional sense. However, I have spent time on mental health wards (my mum is on one at the moment) and very much agree with what jobielad wrote in post #20. As I'm not qualified to offer a diagnosis, so won't and anything I say below is just opinion.

What disturbs me most about Perez's behaviour is that others are celebrating it, as if it is one of the only things making CBB watchable. The one thing that allows people like Perez to get away with what they do is other people. People like him know how to play all the emotional cards and have no restraint in playing them, whereas more empathic, sensitive individuals would show more caution because they are considerate of the impact of their behaviour upon others. That is why only people like Hopkins can fight back because she, like him, is less sensitive to the feelings of others. The contrast between them is interesting because while Perez comes across as emotionally incontinent, Katie is focused on being emotionally controlled.

Personally, I cannot see how anyone with such nasty, spiteful traits can be applauded for being like this. Sure, conflict in the CBB/ BB house is part of what makes it watchable but this is just repetitively disturbing. Of course, the producers are salivating at the prospect of something really controversial exploding and are providing the fuel so I doubt Perez will get thrown out, even if his behaviour exceeds what has led to other 'removals'. When Perez sat in the diary room saying he wanted to leave and demanding his lawyers I just wish the production team had turned it on his head and said, "Sure, Perez. Big Brother does not wish to see you in further distress. Sort your stuff out and we'll arrange it asap." The look on his face would have been priceless.

I thought Steven Goode was a textbook narcissist. He cared way too much what others thought of him to be a thoroughbred psychopath.

You beat me to it. I was just gonna post the same extract. It's unbelievably apt.

Buuuuut, he's been getting worse as the days go by, so I'm not sure the extent to which the house is doing some of this. None of us can ever know what it feels like. He might just have stunted emotional devt and the house has affected him.

Perez most certainly is not a psychopath - they are charming and adept at manipulating people to achieve their own ends.

I agree that the histrionic personality description seems to accurately describe him, but who knows - he knows the cameras are on him and he's trying to provide entertainment. His humour is infantile, but it's a very popular type of humour in the USA - just not so much here in Britain. He's a big character: extreme, over-exciteable, extrovert, creative, manic, and he needs a bigger outlet. He's approaching BB as if it's a big party.. but hasn't got anyone in that house who "gets" him, or with whom he can have fun and plot mischief. He was using the audience for that, but the audience aren't getting him, but he was unaware of that until he heard the boos.

I'm not going to try to psychoanalyse him, but If I was in the house, I'd like him. I like colourful, zany people, I like to laugh, party and have a carry on. I'd prefer to cope with Perez being challenging, annoying or tearful than be around someone who never challenged me, was as dull as dishwater and tried to dominate or bully me into changing my future eviction nominations.
