I have a Motorola V220 PAYG which I've had for about 10 years. I don't need to be forever on a mobile (as you can tell) just use it for emergencies and incoming calls, so a tenners worth of credit lasts for years. I really needed it recently when my telephone line was damaged and I had no phone/interent access. I used up all the credit, bought a tenners worth from the post office, but can't find a way of installing the credit. On the receipt it says dial 150 from your mobile and key in the activation code but I get 'call failed'. It's always annoyed me that although I can take photos, I am unable to download them onto my computer, so time for a new mobile. So please can you give me a few recomendations for a new mobile? Ta.

Good question. I took the mobile with me to the P.O as it had been so long since I put credit on, i wasn't sure. The assistant looked at the phone and decided it was T.Mobile, so the credit will be for a T. Mobile network, but I've a feeling it is Orange. I know this all seems sketchy, but this is because I do little more than re charge the phone.
I know the younger generation are very much into mobile gagetry and are on them all the time, but all I need is a basic mobile that takes photos that can be downloaded.

Look at the sim card under the battery to find out the network. Orange top up number is 450 so call that from the phone. T-mobile credit won't work with Orange you'll have to buy another credit voucher on the correct network.

It is now supposedly possible to use the vouchers cross-brands.

Can you try the following with the voucher:

We’ll text you to confirm that your top up has been added to your phone.

Or if you’d prefer you can redeem your E-voucher by text.
Just text VO followed by the 16-digit voucher number to 150
e.g. VO 1234567891234567

Important Advice: If you have an Orange voucher that contains a 12 digit code then enter here. If you have a EE voucher, that has a 16 digit voucher code, please text VO and the 16 digit voucher code to 150 from your device to redeem.

https://www.youraccount.orange.co.uk.../pub/vouchers?
To put it simply, send a text to 150, the text must just be 'VO 16digits'

What do you want your new phone to be able to do? Do you want to be able to use internet/email or just calling and texting?

I should have got back to this thread earlier.

After struggling to get the T Mobile voucher code accepted, I've found that it is Orange network and I need an Orange Voucher code and yes I need to dial 450 not 150. Customer Services were great, and they reckon that I can do a straight swap with the voucher I bought for an Orange voucher, but we will see, I'm not counting on it.
So despite EE, T Mobile & Orange all being under the same umberella, you can't use the vouchers cross brands.

I've been looking ar PAYG mobiles on Amazon, but whilst some feed back is positive on a nice looking phone, it also has bad negatives, so still looking.

It's quite well known that a large segment of CS are pretty ignorant of what can be done.

Did you try the directions in the post you quoted? Newer 16 digit codes should work via the text method (and only the text method), why not try it before dismissing the idea as you have?

I have seen EE vouchers used to top up Orange PAYG phones.

That's a bit rude.
I have done all that has been suggested on here, the texting didn't work. I spent some time talking to Customer services and was told categorically that as my network is Orange, only Orange vouchers can be accepted. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do a direct swap on the voucher and had to buy another one, but at least my phone is now topped up.

So you know better than the Orange website?

It's pretty clear on the page. I'll repeat it again:

voucher number:

help on locating your voucher number
Important Advice:
If you have an Orange voucher that contains a 12 digit code then enter here.
If you have a EE voucher, that has a 16 digit voucher code, please text VO and the 16 digit voucher code to 150 from your device to redeem.
Did you even click the link that was posted?

https://www.youraccount.orange.co.uk.../pub/vouchers?

Go have a look for yourself, it is quite clear.

Except you haven't read the OP comment, it was a T-Mobile voucher and not an Orange or EE voucher as instructed by the Orange website or as you have quoted.

OP could have said so when I started trying to help in post #5, there is no mention of T-Mobile in the OP, which is what I had been working from.

I suppose it doesn't help when you have people who don't even know what network they are on.

Doesn't matter now, at least she has managed to buy the correct voucher second time round, she can write off the wrong voucher to education costs.

OP says in post 3 they took the mobile with them to the post office and the assistant thought it was T-Mobile so the credit would be for T-Mobile. I also said that T-Mobile credit won't work with Orange.
