I think because it would kill the regular one, like with the US Apprentice. They only do a celeb one now.

The regular BB does solid ratings on its own. They don't need a celebrity one yet. Same with Survivor.

It would be funny, if they shipped in British housemates just like we have US housemates over here.

The USA's current Big Brother format wouldn't really work with a Celebrity edition, nobody would be desperate enough to stay.

As I understand it Bigg Boss, the Indian version of Big Brother is always a celeb version

Id imagine it could be because American celebrities are worldwide celebrities, therefore they'd never get any celeb to do it.

I presume they've got lower scale celebs, like in the UK, but even these would probably still see spending a month in a house as beneath them.

Surely they could do what CBB does over here and fill the house with hasbeens, wannabes and people from scripted reality shows

There was a show in the naughties that ran for 6 series called The Surreal Life. It was very similar to CBB.

the usa has a lot of other "celeb do things" shows that is why...
big brother in the states also isnt based on the idea of george orwell (as they never got that sort of thing) but on their meaning of big brother i.e. replacement dad... so the format is actually different

In America celebrities do "celebrity versions of shows" for CHARITY not for themselves. It's just not done here.

There are celebrity versions of a lot of the quiz shows and the celebrities go on them to raise money for charity. I don't know why this is so but it has always been the way. Anytime it's a celebrity version of whatever they play for a chosen charity and not for themselves.

Now this isn't a total blanket rule. People who have some celebrity have competed in Survivor (usually former football players) and The Amazing Race (the Harlem Globetrotters who I would define as celebrities). But they compete in regular versions of those shows, neither show has a celebrity only version. They both do favourites series where past contestants compete again but not celebrity only versions.

They did have their own version.

It was called 'The surreal life'

It was on until 2006

I could be wrong but I think the first CBB in the UK was for charity too not sure when it changed to the celebs getting a fee.

The first one was for charity, it was part of Comic Relief that year. I think it's the only and they started playing for themselves by CBB2

There would be too many conditions put down by the stars respective lawyers and if BB so much as served them up a chickpea they would sue and sue hard.

The panelists of The View sometimes take part in a short, condensed version of BB prior to a season starting, because one of them is the host of the US version. It's not exactly a proper Celebrity Big Brother, but it's probably as close to CBBUS you'll get.

That's what Dancing with the Stars is for over there.

The format is different, wouldn't work as a celeb version

They vote each other out etc, not the public .

It's more a game there then a popularity contest here
