Forgot to put left-over roast chicken in the fridge...
This morning I roasted a chicken, which came out of the oven around 12ish, rested it for 20 minutes or so, and then had some for lunch.
I then re-foiled it in the roasting dish, put cling-film around that with the intention of putting it in the fridge and then got distracted by the phone. I then went out, completely forgetting to put it in the fridge, and will not be back until late, by which time at will have been at a low "room temperature" for around 10 hours - I keep the heating on "tick-over" at around 12-15c during the day. Should I write it off, or would either just re-refrigerating it overnight make it OK to eat cold tomorrow, or should I re-heat it in the oven again? I don't have a meat thermometer and it was perfectly cooked so really don't want to ruin it with a re-heat. What's the worst that could happen? I can handle the trots

I've left one out for 24 hours, heating on 22 degrees and eaten it without a problem.

I've left a few out at about 20 degrees overnight before and not had any problems eating it. I'd refrigerate as soon as you get in and it should be fine tomorrow.

Thank God for DS. Atleast the smallest percentage of food waste is being improved.

Too late to advise, but I would eat that without even thinking about it.
The hysteria surrounding bacteria/poisoning can go overboard sometimes. I've never had food poisoning in my 33 years. |
