Emma's interview with Alexander

19-01-2015
It's time for #CBBBOTS! It's kicking off right now on @channel5_tv with @EmmaWillis, including an exclusive with @AlexanderO_Neal.

Alexander O’Neal has spoken to Emma Willis about his exit from Celebrity Big Brother 2015.

In tonight’s show Emma started the interview by saying to Alexander that when they met at the start of the process, Alexander hadn’t seen much of Big Brother, she then asked if it was what he expected. He replied that it was ‘an experience!’

He continued: ‘The stress became unbearable.’ He went on to say that he realised the Perez problem wasn’t going to go away. He said: ‘I did it for myself and for my Housemates.’ He added that he didn’t think that two Housemates should stop the other Housemates from having a positive experience.

Emma then told Alexander that it was a shame he left as the Housemates loved him and when he had his spat with Perez, all of the house sided with him. To this, Alexander said: ‘Perez is gonna be Perez and do what he gonna do.’ He added that you need to ‘keep your guard up’ with Perez so you don’t get sucked into his drama.

‘He taunts you,’ remarked Alexander, going on to stay that he knows his motives for his behaviour, that if he ‘cuts the house down’ then he has more chance of winning.

Emma stated that the show the public sees is very tense and then asked Alexander if it’s like that constantly. Alexander said: ‘No not constantly, living with 11 or 12 Housemates, you’re bound to have moments, everyone has them.’

Emma then asked Alexander if he had any good times in the house and he replied: ‘Many, many good times.’ Alexander said that it’s good to be ‘out of his comfort zone’ and meet all these new people as he is a bit of a recluse. Alexander said the experience was ‘very much a reward to me’.

Speaking about his former housemate, Alexander said: ‘The person I had most respect for was Katie’ (Hopkins).

He said that the public don’t know her and he remarked that she had become ‘cocooned’ by her profession. Alexander went on to call her ‘a very kind woman’ and ‘a lovely lady’.

Continuing to talk about Katie H, Alexander said that he had spoken to her before he made his decision to leave the house to ‘let her know exactly how I felt about her’. He added that Katie’s ‘defences had been lowered’ and that he didn’t know she was ‘that fragile’.

Asked him if he would recommend Big Brother and Alexander replied: ‘Maybe to some enemies.’

Emma then quizzed Alexander on the impact of Katie Price joining the house and he replied: ‘Definitely, it changed everything.’ Asked if the mood in the house had changed after Katie Price’s arrival he said: ‘Yeah for several reasons. She’s lovely, I’m feeling her but she came in and held court quick!’ he then called her the ‘queen bee’. He added; ‘Even with her fame and notoriety, she is so down to earth, I was honoured to be in her presence.’ He then said that they had talked about recording together.

Finally, asked who he would like to win, Alex replied: ‘Calum’. He said that the pair had shared a lot of ‘private time’ together and that their relationship had ‘started from a place of trust’. He added that he loved Calum’s dad, the late George Best. Alexander said that Calum helped him during some ‘turbulent situations’ in the house and that in the end the other Housemates just didn’t ‘deserve the pressure.’

Celebrity Big Brother 2015 airs nightly on Channel 5.

Thanks Erin, haven't seen it yet but Alex despite reacting to Perez, he had a certain calmness and grace towards people.

The walker obviously keeps his pay cheque, otherwise he wouldn't have agreed to be interviewed.

Alexander was no great loss he hardly appeared on the H/L show.

Blatantly a deal between BB and Alex from the get-go.

Alexander didn't look well during the interview, even hiding behind the big sunglasses, the rubbing of the face and facial ticks - looks as though the show really got to him.

He did the best thing, leaving. Pushing someone mentally and emotionally isn't funny, and we only saw an hour of it. Like he and Chloe have both said, Perez is constant and over a few hours is when people kick off or say something, it's a build up.

I would of liked to have seen more of the great man, but feel leaving was right before he ended up kicking off. I agree he didn't look good.

I agree. It's a shame he was the one to walk and not the odious Perez but it was the right thing for him personally.

If you watch his body language (as we've been taught to by BBBOTP) its plain to see Alex is lying when talking about why he left, by his rubbing of his face & mouth.

Note that for the rest of the interview he is not showing those signs.

I agree. It was a shame but his health, sanity and reputation are more important. The show was draining to watch and clearly a nightmare for some hms to endure on a 24 hr daily basis.

Normally when BB HMs ask to leave, we see them go back into the House and say their goodbyes to the HMs,collect few things (sometimes).......but Alexander didn't, we only saw him being intimidating to Perez, then going up the stairs to the Diary Room, then the announcement was given to HMs on the sofas that he'd left. So seems to me BB asked him to leave because of his behaviour - but they've covered that up.

After a certain amount of time in the House the HMs do get paid if they leave, so think that applied to Alexander. And they gave him an interview, but he didn't get to go on the BOTS show itself. So I agree with others that some kind of deal was made, lawyers involved perhaps with Alexander so the real reason he left was withheld.

Like many other posters I'm not convinced by the reasons we were given. I do wonder if the guy had a proper break-down in the DR and they had to let him go for fear of his health. If it had been a expletive filled temper tantrum we would have seen it (Leo Sayer anyone? ). If he was as nasty as some on here are trying to make out then why were the majority of the house so upset? Perez singled the guy out and poked and prodded until the poor man couldn't take anymore. I do believe that last night's interview was a damage limitation exercise and I don't think we'll ever really know the real reason why he left.

Yes it stinks as much as when Kimberley left in the last BB. It's always going to arouse suspicion when people leave without the diary room conversation being shown. If there was nothing to hide then they would just show it like usual.

The body language interpretations on BBBOTP are mostly nonsense.

I agree. The way they aired it -- without the typical HM break down in the DR... then the DR trying to convince them to stay, etc.... it is just odd. I think there was WAY more to it.

But whatever happened - it seems BB still has respect for Alexander (by the way they have edited the episode and handled the Alexander interviews).. So whatever went down (if anything did) - it was most likely not THAT bad.

** This all just my opinion... and pure speculation **

I can't be sure since so many of the walks were years ago, but I don't think they usually go back for final goodbyes. OTOH, I do think we usually see a final scene in the DR and a DR session at some point where they talk with BB about why they want to go.

(Tom in bb10 is an example of someone who did have a "final goodbyes" scene.)

Perez stated beforehand that he would force people out and he has. It's obvious from the HMs reaction to Alex leaving and the fact we weren't shown him in the Diary Room asking to leave implies that there was far more to it - and, as others have mentioned, his body language iin the interview with Emma belies the true reason. Disagree with McCririck saying that BB beat Alex so he walked - it was Perez who battered him down as Chloe then testified.
Hope he got some of his pay cheque as he deserves it for putting up with Perez's continual harassment.

I wonder if some intense legal discussions took place in that DR where Alex was promised his fee if he left and contracts were signed. For all we know, he could have been in there for hours doing a deal.

Whatever is said, I refuse to believe some sort of deal wasn't done

I don't buy into this persecution of Alexander by Perez. What a weak bloke Alexander must be to walk out over this.
