I know google is my friend but can someone please explain to me what Drag Race is and how Michelle a straight female came to be (and I'm talking pre BB) a spokesperson for gay rights? I'm not saying for a second there is anything wrong with this, and I actually think she's pretty admirable for standing up for what she believes and being so vocal about it .

She grew up taking part in the gay ballroom scene (voguing competitions essentially) and fell in to it. Eventually she became very close with Rupaul and was his co-host on a talk show in the 1990s. I think generally her entire career, even as a singer, has been very supported by LGBT people and she returns the love.
She has also spoken quite openly about a lot of her early sexual experiences being with women. I'm not sure that she really labels herself as straight, I think she just happens to be married with kids.
