Of course he doesn't want to go! He's a creature who only knows he exists by seeing his reflection in a mirror, or his name in the paper, or his byline on the internet. There's nothing inside but a bubbling bog of bile. He needs to think he is important and admired. Being dismissed is his nightmare. It spells a loss of control of his image. That's why he has to resort to the childishly unconvincing 'Let me out!' shouts now. The only card he has left is the 'jump before you're pushed' card. And he can't even bear to play that. But he knows that if he can claim he 'made' the public do his bidding by voting him out - well, that's the only solution he can find to excuse his failure to win.
