Hettie Macdonald Returns to Direct
CD93
21-01-2015
Thanks Blogtor for the heads up A pleasant surprise.

Quote:
“Returning behind the camera is Hettie Macdonald, who helmed the Steven Moffat episode Blink (2007). Macdonald has just finished work on the Sky Atlantic series Fortitude, which stars former Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston (and Blink star Michael Obiora).

No further details are known as this moment but it is thought she's involved in Block Two of filming on Series 9 which may involve some overseas filming in Spain. Peter Bennett will be producing (who has produced a number of eps on the show since 2010).”

If it's another Weeping Angels episode I'll be pissed. Moffat has used them too much, they're losing their scariness.

If it's another Slitheen episode, I'll be pissed. Just throwing that out there, just in case.

Weeping Angels were last seen in TOTD. If done right could be really scary. After all they did kill Amy and Rory. Maybe it will bring back painful memories. What would Clara think if she found out about Amy and Rory's deaths ?. Does she know they were also Rivers parents ?. "You married your best friends daughter ? ". "I thought it was the best way to look after her ,keep her out of trouble". Could have a very interesting conversation about it. Doctor would probably love a chance to fight and defeat them so no one else will ever be sent back in time and left to die of old age.

There's no need to mock me. I only said it because she directed Blink. I would assume Steven would be bringing her back to carry out the same performance.

I could imagine him bringing in a director who he knows can direct a suspenseful horror episode, but I wouldn't think there are directors that are particularly good at directing 'Dalek episodes', for example, or are only good at managing Weeping Angels.

Of course. But on the other hand, Moffat could have written an Angel episode and thought, "Hettie did wonders for that Blink episode, let's bring her back". It seems like a very Moffat thing to do.

I would disagree, it seems to me like a very un-Moffat thing to do - he doesn't tend to use elements in the same ways on repeat visits. To use the Angels as an example themselves, Flesh and Stone is a very different beast to Blink, and Angels Take Manhattan is another take altogether.
