I've got a neighbour three doors down who I've only seen four times in the time I've lived here, but he is continually having a go at me about my dogs' poop - he's getting really rude now.

Now, everyone around here knows I pick up religiously after my dogs - hell, I've even swilled down the street a few times after chocolate mousse incidents - but this guy refuses to back down. It's me, apparently.

I asked him today if he was sure, and he said "pretty sure". But that's hardly certain.

Apparently my dogs are always off the lead and running round - we live on a little street - but there's no way I'd let my dogs off as cars come down here fast. The funny thing was Harley WAS off his lead this morning as I was trying to get a urine sample for the vet, but that hardly means he's crapping everywhere...

What do I do? Really annoyed about it. Spoken to many of the neighbours all of whom know full well I religiously pick up. But SO annoyed about it!

You've said he's continually having a go at you but you've only seen him 4 times. What's he doing - putting notes through the door?

If he raises the subject again just say, look, I've already told you, it's not my dog.

Now get your facts right and (2 words, 2nd word= off).

Thanks. I know it's stupid to get worked up about it, but anyone can see it's cat poop! It's all over the place back there and no one goes there but the cats!

Some people are just like dogs with a bone - they won't give up on the subject...

God I wish I was dealing with you.
you sound amazing the guy up the street is letting his dog poo right outside the front door Daily. I caught him at it again this morning and said firm but polite I thought he was being really unfair "don't blame me its the dog".. when I tried to say it wasn't the dogs job to pick the poo up he just told me F off and walked on. Ive reported him now to the council

sounds like this guy instead of seeing he clearly has the wrong dogs has somehow decided its you. I really am sorry hope you can get it sorted

I fell your pain! I had this isse a few years ago, it went on for weeks, months, maybe about 2 years, someone letting their dog shit on the gravel outside our house *every* day.

I never found out who it was. The dog warden / council said they cant do anything unless they know who it is. Blaming the dog is bollocks, course the dog doesn't know better, but the owner does.

Take pictures of him and send them to the council. Or follow him and find out where he lives. Just threaten to return the shit, he might back off then...

The trouble is: there are SO MANY people letting their dogs crap everywhere and we, decent owners, get the blame.

My god, I wouldn't mind, but Harley did a huge chocolate mousse poop outside his house and there I am, swilling it down with a bucket of water... No one ever sees that, though, do they?

I'm annoyed because my bin is forever filled with poop bags and sadly, the bins were emptied yesterday, so I couldn't even say 'what do you think these are?'

Now when I confront him he'll just say I've just started doing it. #le sigh. We can ALL live without people like this.

It's really bad when you KNOW who is letting their dogs poop everywhere but they refuse to do anything about it!

Used to live in the middle of a row of cottages. We each had our own area but you could walk down the back of them. Next door used to let her dog out in the morning and turn a blind eye to where it crapped. After having a word didn't help, I collected it and left it in a neat heap against her back door with a note saying 'Yours I believe'.
End of problem. That said I asked her not to let it do it there at all. Even if you pick up, the grass is tainted and not nice for sitting out on!

OP maybe you could provide the neighbour with a doggy bag and ask if he could pick up and show you the offending poo. Or ask him to call you when he notices it so that you can go out to investigate together! Have a sample of your regular dog poo handy - it's my experience dogs often have distinctive poo. Plus you can usually tell if it's from a cat.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

LOL

Glad your problem is sorted! I wouldn't put it past him to put poop through my letterbox.

Is that some kind of crime?

Having been on the receiving end in the past of people who just let their dogs crap right outside your property, it's something that really annoys me, as not only is it an awful thing to do, it makes people label all dog owners the same. If after asking politely I got told to F off, as soon as he'd gone, I'd have thrown it straight back into his own garden or yard. I've also read of people having success with putting it in an envelope and anonymously posting it through the letterbox as a pleasant surprise for when the owner gets home. Not a nice thing to do, but then neither is letting your dog crap all over someone else's property so they have to clear it up, and you don't mind clearing up after your own but doing it for somebody else's really bothers you.

Ah cat doo-ins is another matter. We did have 4 at one time but it's just the one now. I noticed a few months back that my neighbour's front lawn attracted a regular smattering of cat muck. I knew it wasn't mine (she goes in her special spot in our back garden) so I actually took the initiative and mentioned it to the lady in question. I mentioned that suspected that the local "TopCat" was the likely culprit as he wandered his manor leaving calling cards. I've never caught him in the act but he is very bold (and my cat hates him). Anyway she has been fine about it and I feel better, as I'm now not paranoid that she is next door cursing me!

Some neighbours can be very nasty. I would arrange a meeting with a community warden.

I can't say I blame him, putting up with other people's pets mess is pretty miserable!!

I tell off people if I catch them not clearing up, because I had a warning from the council because some mess was on the grass outside my house so they assumed it was due to my dog.

Not everyone likes your animals, they really ought not to have to put up with them IMO.

It must be, but if he's having a go at the wrong person then it's not going to solve the problem, is it?

Does that count for cats too? A neighbour has tried putting mesh over her lower containers but the cats just squat on top of it. And now in addition to the usual faeces, another neighbour's cat has taken to sicking up/having diarrhoea on my patio. The cat is terminally ill and the neighbour knows it but as long as it is moving round she won't do anything about it. Let my collie out into my garden the other day without realising there was another mess there and of course she was straight into it lapping up the diarrhoea. She is poorly herself but the next two days she was really ill

I live on a small street - cul-de-sac - ... Our home is at the entrance to the cul-de-sac. All the homes have open plan front gardens. We can't fence them off or put up walls or fences - it's in the deeds or some legal "shite" meaning we can't have fenced off front gardens..

Some ****er lets their dogs shit in my front garden and I have to clean it up. I don't know who it is as I've never seen the dogs do it.

It pisses me off.

Last year my dogs "Got Out The Front" and zoomed up the cul-de-sac and one of them crapped in a front garden. I was up the street with the poo bags looking for the shit. I just KNEW one of the three would have done the dirty.

I wasn't wrong and only in the UK would you have a householder standing at the front door or window directing you to EXACTLY where the deposit was. I didn't mind cleaning up after my dog ( I was apologising all the time BTW) but why the **** should other dog owners in my small street think it's OK to not clean up my front garden after their dogs shit on it?

It gets my goat when people don't clean up after their dogs.

I think he's stopped having a go at me about it now as I'm now just getting dirty looks every time we cross paths (which we have done a scarily large amount this week for some reason).

I keep wanting him to say something - it's been a week now and my bin is brimming with poop bags (which is right outside my door). Although I very much doubt that even that evidence would be enough to stop the hate.

Like you I get "the look" and wish someone would actually say something.

Because my bitch crouches to pee (I.E. no leg-cocking) every time she stops to leave a quick text-message, it can appear to non-doggie people that she's no. 2-ing. Of course I know better and walk on.

I can see people almost gesturing "aren't you going to clear that up"? The day they actually say it I will respond with "what do you think this is - fairy dust"? As a thrust a full bag of doggie do in their face.

Tell him to get the poo DNA tested, and that you'll pay for the test if it proves to be from your dog. That might shut him up.

I did exactly that a few years ago, a woman in the next close to ours would walk her labrador on the green behind our house with the sole intention of getting the dog to have a crap and then go home, no intention of actually 'walking' the dog and this was a field which children played on, I stood by my window and watched her let the dog leave a pile right outside my back gate, she saw me glaring at her as well. So when she'd gone I went out with a plastic bag, picked up the crap and went and posted in through her letterbox with a note saying "I believe this belongs to you," and also gave her my address. I then got in touch with the environmental health department who sent someone round to her house. Needless to say, she never came back.

I was on the receiving end a couple of weeks ago, there was a huge pile on the path beside the field where I walk my dog, I walked past it, and as a couple came round the corner and saw it called to me to pick up after my dog.

I pointed out, first I always do and secondly look at the size of the turd and look at the size of my dog! She is a tiny four month old Cockerpoo, she couldn't possibly have been responsible for the size of turd that was on the pavement, not unless she had bowels like the flaming tardis. Not sure they were convinced.

This is a dangerous game though, as while in this case you got the right person, imagine what would happen if you were wrong.

I'm sure the guy at #71 would LOVE to post crap through my letterbox, but he'd be totally wrong. It does worry me though.

There are three poops today beside my house (where he parks his van) and as none of my boys have been down there in weeks, it's clearly someone else.
