I eventually upgraded our ancient CRT to a Samsung UE32H5500 . I also have a Humax HDR-FOX T2 . I am completely confused about how they should work together as now I have a lot of duplication.

How should I wire up and use this setup?

I think I only need the Humax HDR-FOX T2 to record and playback programmes as the TV has freeview built in. Also the new TV lets me use the BBC iplayer over our Internet connection which is important to us. (In principle the Humax should too but it never liked working over wireless for me.) In my old setup the TV got the signal entirely from the Humax PVR and its aerial wasn't plugged in at all.

If you want to record on your Humax you will need either a separate aerial feed for it or daisy chain you TV's aerial through the Humax and then onto your TV - however if you do this you must go into the Humax's set-up menu and make sure your enable pass through when in 'Standby', otherwise your TV won't get a signal when the Humax is in 'Standby'.
Connect your Humax to your new TV by using a good but not expensive HDMI cable and then select the appropriate input on your TV when your want to watch the output from your Humax.
Of course you will have to let the Humax scan for all available Freeview Channels if you want to record Freeview TV channels on your Humax.

Again, the Humax you have, lke mine, can record two programmes at the same time and they are then stored on the Humax's hard disc. Those programmes are then played back on your TV. Your TV of course has its own HD Freeview tuner.

It is pretty simple.

Aerial --> Humax RF IN
Humax RF OUT --> TV aerial IN

That might involve buying a lead to go from Humax to TV if you haven't already got one. But you can even buy one in Tesco's (other supermarkets are available) with the weekly shop if necessary

Then an HDMI lead from the Humax to the TV.

As mentioned above you need to check the settings on the Humax.

Menu -> Settings -> System -> Power Management

Make sure Power Saving in Standby is OFF. If not you won't be able to watch Freeview on the telly when the Humax is in standby mode.

But once you have set it up you can watch one Freeview channel on the telly while recording any other two channels on the Humax all at the same time.

iPlayer on the Humax is a pain in the backside. If you don't have the right level of Firmware on it it won't work at all. And even with the right version of firmware it can be flakey as i ahve discovered with my Fox-T2. I use the TV for such things and have a wider range of services anyway.

The next issue I will have, I now realise, is how to remove duplicate channels from the Samsung as we have lots of channels with weak signals viewable from our aerial.

What is your nearest or official transmitter? Could always retune and then delete, via your TV's menus those channels you don't want.

You'll need a female to male for connecting the Humax to the TV...

Same setup we have - actually we still use the Humax 99% of the time rather than the built in tuner as it is easier to flick between Media/Guide/ choosing to record / change channel etc. i.e. TV is mainly set to HDMI1

I imagine that TV will also work for the online IPTV channels (200+) which don't work on the HDR sadly, ours does, also has iPlayer, ITV PLayer, 4od etc. which prove handy when I've disconnected the aerial by mistake and a critical soap hasn't recorded!
