mhl? 2.0 ? , casting ?
hi i have the first generation moto g on unlimited data 3 network plan
my objective is to nip round my mum n dads house and put a streaming film on for them on their telly a cpl of times a week . the moto isnt mhl compatible , i nipped in maplin today and the tech guy tried to set it up for me by using a casting dongle but to no avail ,,,,,, he said he did everything right , he went into display settings and enabled casting but it just wouldn't search for the dongle he had plugged in to one of the tv's , ,,,,,,,,,, he couldn't make a link whatsoever and said he had done everything regarding the wi-fi link etc ,,,,,, he was quite bemused and apologetic etc and i left empty handed. any ideas chaps ? if not , whats the cheapest mhl,( be it (2.0) direct or lesser version with the right adaptor/power) android phone (on 3) i can buy. ? my parents are very elderly now and dont want any technical issues to add to their lives ,,,,,, they just want me to pop in a cpl of times a week and sit with them with a film. thanks in advance , lee |

Basically a Google Chromecast should do what you want. The only things to consider are to make sure their TV has a HDMI port and make sure whatever app you want to use to stream the film supports Google Cast.
The Chromecast is fairly simply to set up, just make sure you are connected to the WiFi network then use the Chromecast App to get the Chromecast connected to the WiFi network. From then on, as long as both are on the same WiFi network, any supported apps will give you an option to cast to the Chromecast. At least in my experience some of the staff in maplin aren't exactly the most clued up people in the world so that probably explains why he couldn't get it to work (assuming it was a Chromecast he was trying to cast your phone to). Sounds like he was expecting the Cast screen functionality work (this mirrors your phones display) which I don't think is supported on the Moto G. Whereas what you will want to do is use supported apps to cast their content, which the Moto G (and any modern android device) does support. |
