Cat biting.
I took in a rescue cat in November, she's settled in really well and gets on with my two dogs.
She is quite affectionate on her own terms and is definitely MY cat. The only problem is, if she sees my feet ,legs or arms bare she will wrap her paws round them and sink her teeth in. Have you any idea why she does this? I have to tell her off as it hurts and she draws blood. |

She's playing. Cats think of us as bigger cats - so they assume we also have thick skin and fur to protect us from their "rough and tumble". Try tapping her on the top of her head or nose when she does it or distract with toys for her to play with.

When my cat bites I blow in her face and she immediately backs off with a 'WTF'? expression on her face. She bites a lot less now.

We got ours from the cat protection people and she is the same. She's only just over 6 months old and she is quietening down a bit. As she's so young I allow her to nibble but won't tolerate the more vicious biting so after saying no twice in a firm but not raised voice I put her in another room for half an hour. She usually returns in a much better frame of mind. She's not very keen on being petted either so I'm working on that, making sure we have at least 10 minutes a day when I stroke her. She has progressed to offering her throat for stroking but not her tummy yet. My next target is to get the OH to treat her the same as he encourages her by wriggling his feet so she attacks him!
Good luck. |

Cats are wild creatures and are only doing natural things. Biting is part of practicing for hunting skills as is stalking and pouncing.

She must be young, they calm down later in life.

We got our Penny as a kitten from the cat adoption people, and she would try to do that, but I would tell her off and give her a tap on the nose, it didn't take long for the message to sink in, she's 13 now and hasn't got a vicious bone in her body.

I think I'm the only person on earth that finds that behaviour funny... A couple of mine (not kittens I might add!) deliberately hide and pounce as I walk past them. If they miss, they quite often throw out a swipe for good luck. I think it's hilarious. It does hurt sometimes, but it makes me laugh

![]() Anyway, we had another breakthrough last night. She came to bed and laid along side me so I gently rested my hand on her and after a while she rolled over and let me stroke her tummy for about ten minutes. It wasn't full surrender as she kept all four paws on my hand/wrist just in case but its progress.

Our cat can get a bit playful sometimes, especially when we are walking around the house, she seems to try and grab our feet and gives off a small cry, I assume she is just playing and worried we may step on her!! (obviously we don't!!)
I also put it down to the fact its cold outside so she isn't going out much and running off any energy so always seems to be in a playful mood. She always has been a cat who loves her cuddles but on her terms! |

Mine does this too.She thinks I am another (albeit larger) cat. I tell her off, but also distract her with one of her toys so she (hopefully) gets the message that she should play with that rather than with me.
