I actually requested having the House of cards and Orange is the new black discussion threads to be moved here, but i assume they don't want them moved here.

Its a great idea and with all the upcoming shows on there its an easier way to find a thread to discuss them.

Virgin Media recently gifted me Netflix free for 6 months and I am very impressed with the service. It is not a service I would have even considered using before, but it's really good for the kids.
Netflix is growing at a massive rate, so I think it deserves it's own section.

![]() I spent many a year bellowing decisively about how I would never pay a single dime above the already overpriced cable television bill. And here I sit, having tried out: 1. Acorn TV, which failed because a paused video could not be restarted at the last point of viewing. Acorn Media could do naught about it. And they have SO many UK shows, I wish they would fix their bug. 2. Amazon Prime Video, which was a recent perk to my 12 year Amazon purchasing membership, which I no longer use because they threatened me with expulsion as I return too many items - in their opinion. I therefore pay the $100. a year just for the videos. 3. Netflix, in which I subscribed kicking and screaming, thinking HOW much more television could I watch? Well, since Acorn was a no go, I am finding quite a few UK shows, and am thus far happy. Moral of my windy post - never say never. If a curmudgeon like me can relent, anyone can relent. P.S. I saw a post with a question on how U.S. television works. Is there a similar post on how UK television works? I thought the television licence fee was all you paid, and then you got BBC and ITV and all their wonderful programs. Is SKY a premium channel? |

The description for the forum suggests that the mods *do* consider that those threads should be here:
But due to my request not actually being done, i only guess they do not want them here. Oh well. |

What about Amazon Prime and Now TV ?
All they needed to do was move Online Entertainment Services up to this section. Not sure Netflix even needs its own subforum personally. You wouldn't have separate subforums for BBC, ITV, etc. |

Netflix, Love film, Google Play, I tunes, Amazon Prime, Chromecast, Sky on demand, Virgin on demand, Picture Box, Youtube,
Its all too confusing and the rights to things split between too many services. Hopefully soon we get down to just one that has it all. Like how Blue ray, HD, DVD, all eventually became blueray. |

You wouldn't have separate subforums for BBC, ITV, etc. It seems to be intended as a forum for discussing the platform (as before), *and* now also the shows it produces... which, I think, confuses things. Why should shows made by Netflix be here and not in TV: US or TV: Cult/SF/Fantasy as appropriate? I don't agree with the Now TV example, as it's just another way of watching what is shown by Sky, but Amazon Prime is a good example - it's got Transparent and other shows that are actually produced specifically for it, just as Netflix has House of Cards etc. This forum doesn't really fit with the other forums for discussing actual TV programmes. |

In longer version by paying the TV licence we can watch all the "Freeview" channels picked up through a standard TV aerial which include all of the BBCs output (1, 2, 3, 4, 2 BBC kids channels, Parliament and so on), all the ITVs, Channel 4 & 5, Film 4 and a small selection of other random entertainment, documentary and shopping channels like "Drama", "Community", "True", "Quest", "Jewelry" and "Dave". It even carries some HD channels or time shifted ones like "Channel 4 + 1" (which isn't the same as Channel 5 ). There's apparently 60+ Freeview channels although I'm pretty sure that some of them have viewing figures in single digits. But Sky is not part of the Freeview package. On top of your TV Licence you can then pay a second provider (or even a third or more if you wish) such as Virgin TV, Sky, BT, Talk Talk and so on. These are either provided by cable or satellite (or broadband? no idea) and carry most of the channels available on Freeview (but not all) and throw in a couple of hundred more. Some of these will be further HD channels, some will be time shifted channels, most will be new channels running the full range of music videos, shopping, religion, films, sport and so on and so on. Generally they come in a range of deals so you can for instance decide on how many sport or movie channels you want (the more add-on channels the higher the cost). Many of these channels can be found on multiple Pay TV suppliers (some can be found on all of them) whilst others are exclusive (although in some cases this is because the other provider didn't want it). For example the basic Sky Channel (Sky 1) is carried by most of the suppliers, as it the likes of Sky 2 and Sky Arts (I think). But Sky reserve the Sky Atlantic channel for Sky TV customers alone. It's exclusivity is a major selling point for Sky and they are not about to farm it out any time soon. Then as an additional entertainment choice you could also enter into a separate contract with the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Top Up TV or the like for access to their back catalogs as well as their newly funded shows such as "Orange is the New Black" or "Transparent"). So for example in my case I make monthly payments to the TV Licence + Virgin Media + Netflix. However my in-laws just pay their TV licence and only watch the Freeview channels. |

My Mom got a free decoder box when they switched from analog to digital in her apartment complex. Her indoor aerial setup looks like something out of Flash Gordon. Yes, I've offered to get her basic cable, she'll have none of it (or a cable-ready tv). She's thrilled to have the extra PBS channels, along with the network channels, that are accessed through the box. I hope you have one cable box and one remote to access all those channels? |

Talking of changes, There is a much better forum software out there which more sites are using. Trouble is with the size of DS is that it will take a long time. They will benefit from this move by having unused forums like our technical area hidden away: https://xenforo.com/

Just thought...
What happens with threads for the Netflix/Marvel shows like Daredevil? Should they be here, because this is now a forum for Netflix originals? Or should they actually go in Cult/SF/Fantasy, due to being comic-book shows? I would think that they should go in Cult/SF/Fantasy, the same as Agents of SHIELD, Constantine, Gotham, etc. etc. etc. - those are all US shows, but go in TV:Cult/SF/Fantasy, instead of TV:US, because they're "genre" shows. |

I'm guessing that DS think that Netflix exclusive shows are important for the future of television and so worth highlighting without getting buried by all the threads on the bigger TV forums.
Amazon shows had their own separate thread running at one time. |

So it's here because Netflix are paying for it and there will be a dedicated Netflix moderator.
It would be a shame if we start to see any negative comments about Netflix being deleted........ |
