I don't know if anyone has asked this before on here and it's not totally important to the show but how does the Doctor survive on a day to day basis? What does he eat and if he doesn't have any money where does he get food from? Does the Tardis have a kitchen with unlimited supplies?

The doctor has a food dispenser as seen in episode 1 of the daleks. He also must keep a loaf in as the doctor and Jamie are seen to be eating sandwiches in episode 1 of the web of fear.

He used to eat chips quite a bit, but seems to have gone off them recently.

Given how powerful the TARDIS is, I always just assumed he had a food replicator like Star Trek.

And he has a collection of money from all over the universe - and different time periods.

Forget does the TARDIS have food, does it have a toilet?

It probably has a toilet that adapts automatically to the needs of any life form that's using it!

As has been long established, there is a food replicator in the Tardis, Ian and Barbara had bacon and eggs in the first episode of The Dead Planet, what I want to know is does the Doctor have a bedroom ? We know that there are bedrooms in the Tardis, Amy and Rory, cough cough and we saw Peri in one as well but never the Doctor's Does he even need sleep ? And don't forget in Planet of the Daleks, there was a nice Ikea style bed that rolled out of one of the walls in the consol room !

This was actually a specific trait of the Ninth Doctor. Remember, each Doctor does have different food tastes. Five, Six and Seven were vegetarian (Six did hate carrots though, his last line in reference to Mel's attempts to put him on a diet was "Carrot juice!"), but Nine was seen happily eating a steak and Eleven famously had fish fingers (and custard).

Rose said in series 1 that they always landed on earth to get Milk!

I don't know what happened to the food thing. Would be nice seeing other companions trying to use it.

I just love this little exchange between Rose and Jackie (they really don't do this kind of thing any more!)...

Jackie: "I'm ready to listen. I want to learn about you and him and that life you lead. Only, I don't know, he's an alien! For all I know, he eats grass and safety pins and things".
Rose: "He'll have Shepherd's Pie"

Didn't 12 offer to buy chips at the end of DB?. He also mentioned coffee which he took 3 weeks to get. He finally met Clara at Coal Hill school with them at the start of ITD. Maybe we will get more references to domestic and practical life on the tardis in S9.

Not specific to Nine. Ten also ate chips - he took Sarah Jane, Rose and Mickey (and K9) to a chippy once; another time, Martha bought chips for herself, Captain Jack and the Doctor.

Chip spotting is my hobby.

(Actually, to be fair, I can't remember if the Doctor actually ate any chips on these occasions).

He did in "The Sound of Drums"

He also enjoyed a drink or two!!
William Hartnell had a slug of Mead (The Time Meddler)
Jon Pertwee had a few whiskies and champagne throughout his time.
Tom Baker enjoyed a ginger beer (in reality - a bit more than that!!)
Chris Ecclestone said he would go for a pint with Captain Jack.
David Tennant acted pixxed in the Fireplace episode - so he knew what it was like!
Peter Capaldi...I'm sure would partake in a wee dram or two!!

He uses the power of the Tardis...

He spends his last pound buying loads of cheap sandwiches being sold off by Tesco on their best before date, shortly before closing time.

Then he goes on an adventure thwarting Dalek plans, kiboshing Cybermen schemes or mullering Master machinations, which takes a couple of days.

Then he brings all the sandwiches back to Tesco a few days before their best before date and complains that they're stale. Tesco refund him (full price because he's used his sonic to peel off the 'reduced' stickers) and give him some complimentary vouchers.

He's done this paradox so many times over the centuries that it's left an inexplicable £263M hole in Tesco's takings. There's an entire room in the Tardis full of money and left-over vouchers.

Do you also notice how if you're in Tesco the night before a special offer on expensive gin, the shelves are full of it, but if you come back the next morning when the 'offer' begins, they're mysteriously out of stock and don't replenish the shelves again until the day after the offer ends? Well that's him too, using the Tardis to hog all the cheap gin!

And the Third Doctor appreciated good cheese and a well-stocked wine cellar...

Five also liked tea - and it revived Ten...
