Would you recommend the Lumia 930?
I've had iPhones, had android, currently have an S5 but I am just bored of it, same old same old so I am thinking about a jump to Windows phone and the Lumia 930, any thoughts on Windows Phone and the L930?

Yes...I don't have the 930, I have the Lumia 830. I wish I had gone for the 930 as the 830 isn't getting 'Hey Cortana' After having iPhone and Android for years I was also bored.
I found that the apps that I actually use are all there in Windows and work well. I'm not regretting the move to Windows. In fact, I'm preferring the whole experience. If you are bored with the other two I can recommend moving. |

Nice phone and hardware, only thing I dislike is the thickness of it

I sent my 930 back after a week.. the only notifications I got were from the inbuilt apps.. Facebook, Twitter & other third party apps didn't give them & the tiles stayed blank..
I was onto tech help for most of that week & they couldn't get notifications either, they said 'maybe they'll put it in a future update' It was to be my escape from the the clutches of Steve Jobs, but alas no.. It wasn't meant to be PS the camera was fantastic |

Curious! I get all those notifications on my 820. One thing I would miss if I moved to a newer Lumia is the Glance functionality (Cortana? Meh!).
I do pack a small Android tablet too to cover the app gap for things such as a version of iPlayer which supports downloads. |

I really would recommend a 930, its an amazing phone, I have one, my brother has an 830 which is also amazing, although not as powerful. If the thickness of the 930 bothers you, I would highly recommend an 830. |

Yeah after I'd sent it back... Others said they'd received notifications too, but with tech help saying what they said... I didn't feel I had much choice
Using L920 for 2 years now. No issues with notifications or any other, for that respect and L930 coming Tomorrow. Jumped ship from iOS 2 years ago and never looked back. |

One big plus of WP is that the experience on the low end models is pretty close to the high end. You could pick up a 630/635 cheap to try out. If you find that you do like it then go for the 930, you will always be able to move the cheap handset on without losing much cash.

The only minus for me is no SD card, but if I did not have Lumia 1520 already, I'd go for this one. The green one

630 is a decent phone, i agree with what has been said about the lack of notifications on certain apps though, if you can live with that then set yourself free from apple and google.

As for the notifications and why tiles did not update. There are several places where you can disable/enable.
1. you are in a power save mode, all "background processing" is off. 2. you disable background processes access to your mobile data. 3. you disable app to use background processing selectively 4. you need to run an app at least once to set up the background processing (push notifications, etc.) 5. your tile cannot be the small one, that one is static, I think. Maybe obvious things, but does not hurt to check if all is okay. |

I was also told that I had to receive a notification to set the ball rolling with each individual app..
Nothing was mentioned about small tiles.. The inbuilt apps were ok with small tiles The thing that really stood out was in settings > notifications.. Facebook Twitter & all the other 3rd party apps weren't in the menu so I couldn't adjust or even see if they were able to receive notifications! Can anyone confirm that they have 3rd party apps in the notifications menu? |

I have TP apps in the - Settings - Notifications+Actions. This is where the banner alerts are turned on or off for each app that shows notifications. You also assign their individual alert tones there.
I can't check on the 630 until this evening but assume it's the same. Apologies if I'm missing the point. |

When I had my 930 I could see calls & messages in notifications, but Facebook & Twitter & other 3rd party apps weren't there.. The same problem was replicated by tech support but others have said it works for them & I'm just trying to figure out where I went wrong & if it's worth investing in another Lumia.
Sorry for hijacking the thread but while it's active & parties are contributing.. I want to make full use! |

I have TP apps like ebay, endomondo, Viber, whatsapp, all providing notifications. Sorry don't do Facebook and Twitter.
It may be that it's in the 8.1 Denim update that they enabled TP notifications. (The 830 came with Denim installed). Just as a matter of interest, if you get a new lumia it will get the Denim update and in a few months they will all be upgraded to W10. |

Just checked with my other half, she gets FB notifications in the notification bar on her 630. She doesn't have the tile on the main screen so she can't say if that has anything on it (

Could it be that you use different apps than the others? Also check if background processing is on for it, it's in power saving in settings. Also you can add a twitter account in email and other accounts sections in settings, perhaps it's this one that generates the notifications.. I have no idea, social networks not my thing.

The phone has 32Gb of storage and 30Gb of One Drive storage. Dropbox has just launched and app too.
