Sherry
I love Harvey's Bristol Cream, however it is a tad expensive.
Does anyone have any recommendations for similar tasting sherries or fortified wine, in a more reasonable price range?

Got to be Bristol Cream for me... it's like liquid Christmas cake!
I'm not keen on fino and other dry sherries. Madeira (of the Malmsey variety) is delish. |

![]() They also do ruby port for £6.49 or 10 year old tawny port around Christmas time for £10. Actually, this year Lidl were also doing 10 year old Ruby port for £10. If you really want to go cheap, you can get basic fortified wine for £3 in Lidl, but you really notice the difference in taste between that and their proper sherry/port. I miss Emva cream. |

Aldi or Lidl. Both £5.25 for a 750ml bottle of sherry. I have a marginal personal preference for Lidl's over Aldi's.

Mavrodaphne of Patras is a sweet red wine from Greece, but it taste more like a port. We first had it in Greece years ago and still have it in the winter now.

The wine guy from Food & Drink put some Sherry recommendations up on the show's BBC website.

Not what you're looking for price-wise, but I was given a bottle (well, it's a half-bottle) of Gonzalez Byass Matusalem Sweet Oloroso 30 Year Old Sherry for a present. It's heavenly.
Maybe put it on your wish-list for Christmas, or something. ETA Sorry, link doesn't work for some reason, but Tesco have it, among others. |
