Down the years, there's been various threads on here that have discussed retrospectively Shabhaz and his treatment at the hands of pretty much everyone in the house towards him. The consensus has always been that, while Shabhaz was an irritating (probably mentally ill) bugger who would be a nightmare to live with, that it still didn't justify the way other HMs mocked, ridiculed, isolated, and, frankly, bullied him en masse.
While I wasn't a member, I did lurk on here during that period, and I remember views that were quite different while all this was taking place; that Shabhaz deserved to be hated and isolated, that what was happening wasn't really wrong. So what brought about the later change in opinion? Perhaps it was a case of 'wise after the event', where misguided loyalty to fave HMs who partook in the treatment towards him overrode common decency and it took a while for perspective to assert itself. Perhaps it was different posters offering views. In any case, Behaviour was, in general, being defended at the time which has since been, again, in general, condemned.
Now, nine years later, we have an almost identical situation to that in BB7. with Perez playing Shabhaz, and Katie/Michelle/Cami-Li playing Sezer and Richard, and most of the others playing more minor, but still compliant roles. I suppose Nadia would, in some respects, be George, that otherwise anonymous HM who has since gained respect on here for refusing, alone, to walk out of the living area on the orders of Richard or Sezer, when Shabhaz sat down.
And now, we have an almost identical situation on here too, where members who probably think of themselves as decent-minded people (including, no doubt, some who were among those to condemn the behaviour towards Shabhaz) find themselves defending the main instigators of the treatment towards Perez because, I would wager, their fan loyalty has again overridden common decency.
Just to make it clear, lest I'm accused of being a hardcore fan of Perez, I'm, not. I don't like him, as I didn't like Shabhaz. But, regardless of how I feel about an individual, I can't let that be a justification for the nasty, pack-like, school playground behaviour that we've all seen dished out to Perez.
