To be honest when I first saw her I thought she was a transexual but according to wiki she was born as a female.
^ When I first looked her up, prior to the series launch, I also thought she might have been a transsexual!
I've gone from being a big fan of her at the start to feeling quite disappointed, but I actually really admire her outspoken support for LGBT rights. It doesn't bother me that she's heterosexual, because it just shows that it's not just actual people who fall under the LGBT bracket who care about those issues.
Admittedly, it does initially sound a little strange when she speaks like she's LGBT herself, but I think that's just because she feels like an honorary member due to her extensive support and experience with it. I think she feels at home around gay, lesbian, transgender, etc people, evident when she said her friendship with Calum was a bit of a surprise because she's "not used to straight guys".
I understand where people who find it off-putting are coming from, but she means well, and I appreciate it. I may not like everything I've seen from her in the house, but I do appreciate that.
As for her irritation with Perez' behaviour the night she had her DR rant, I don't think she was suggesting that gay people shouldn't act a certain way. She does RuPaul's Drag Race after all, flamboyance and the more stereotypical behaviour evidently doesn't bother her, I think she took issue because she felt he was putting on a spectacle that may result in less open-minded people negatively judging all gay men by the way he was acting (and, let's be honest, some do judge all based on a few).

I really liked Michelle early on, but this "All I've done for the gay community and now HE does THAT" business really grates. And I agree about the tee shirt slogans - it's really naff and unnecessary.

I'm not black but I am gay and anyone who believes in gay rights and will champion them is all right with me weather they're gay, straight, bi, lesbian or trans doesn't come in to it, theirs already too many homophobes in the world.

I find it very uncomfortable to hear some of the cynical views about Micjelle's support of the LGBTQ community on here. Anyone who bothered to make a cursory glance online will see that she is heavily involved in the gay community and feels very passionately about it. It matters not whether she is gay or straight. She is a vocal supporter of that group and will speak on behalf of the gay community publically to help raise awareness about equality and the treatment of gay people in society. Any one who thinks that that is something to be sneered at should look to the sorry examples of gay/transgender teenagers committing suicide because they feel they have to choice, or the gay community in places like Russia who are actively discriminated against and face criminal Sanctions if they try to protest or speak up for their rights, or the horrible plight of gay men in many countries across the world (the horrific images of gay men being punlically executed only in the last few weeks show that there is still much to be done world wide about gay rights). So it shouldn't matter whether Michelle is gay or not she is there to represent and she speaks on behalf of a community she feels passionately about and a community who have accepted her. The sneering response from people On this forum indicate to me that this is still a pertinent issue.

I don't see any sneering, I see people are giving their honest opinion on her & quite rightly questioning why she feels the need to be a spokesperson for "her community". To me its ridiculous and I question it.
She has publicly on national tv ridiculed a gay man, how do you justify that. Is it only certain gay people she champions.

I believe in gay rights with all my heart.
But I do wonder if it's a little patronising to gay people for Michelle to set herself up as the arbiter on who is a good gay and who is a bad gay. The fact that she's not even gay herself just makes it all the more rich!
The thing about tolerance for gay people is that it's unconditional. Perez has just as much right to make himself look silly as a straight person.
Anyone who decides to judge all gays on the behaviour of one gay man is a bigot, and it is they who should be pilloried rather than the gay man.
Personally I would just like to know why, if she's such a champion, did she not slam Katie Hopkins for saying to Perez "my children live at home with a mom and a dad"
