I think it shows though that their hardcore fan base is only around 10-15,000 people who actually bought Flatline. Yes a bit more promo could have helped but I don't see how they could have done much better. A great song, no doubt about that.

Well promotion was pitiful . But aside from that, it was a good song, but in hindsight ,not the sort of song that would do well comercially

Flatline is a great song and I think if released ten years ago would have been another number 1 for them..

I do wonder if they have a fanbase big enough to get success. Girl bands suffer at the best of times but Mutya and Keisha aren't that well liked really so I'm not exactly sure who their target sales audience will be. If I was a marketing guy I would have serious trouble trying to figure out how to promote them. That's probably why Flatline got next to zero exposer.

I also do think they suffer from not having Heidi. She was easily the most likeable one in terms of who people could relate to. Mutya and Keisha often come across as stand offish and cold. That's the main reason line up 1 failed in the first place.

I don't think they are necessarily missing Heidi (although I would be much more excited by a 2.0 reunion at any point), they are just missing a Heidi personality. It is a shame, all three are really talented and I love Siobhan and Mutya's voices in particular, I just don't think they work that well together. There is sadly just something that doesn't click.

I agree, a lot of people only know the Sugababes as 2.0 and it would be good to start afresh with a new name after all their line up changes, fallouts and god knows what else.


Totally! The band isn't the same without Heidi, a 2.0 reunion would be much better IMO. It just feels a bit flat really and I'm struggling to invest anytime with MKS as they aren't releasing anything and their will probably be another big fall out.

As someone who liked the original Sugababes line-up more than any other, I find it disappointing beyond belief that the trio haven't been able to find success again or even just get their act together. I liked the sounds they came out with in Lay Down In Swimming Pools and Flatline but their reunion has been such a shambles I've been embarrassed for them.

They deseve better than to just be left rotting on the shelf. I wish someone would help them out, because I think they could be really amazing with the right people and some organisation behind them.

I just don't understand where all the people saying (not just on here but on forums all over) they always preferred 1.0 were were they when their album was released? Let's be honest, until Keisha got booted the vast majority couldn't have cared less about 1.0 and nobody really cared that Heidi wasn't an original member, she was just a member.

I was there, buying the album and getting excited when the music videos came on TV.

Don't get me wrong, I like the line up with Heidi too. I just have special affection for 1.0 and would love to see the reunion work.

I'm not saying people weren't, but they weren't to the level that AWDF and TIMW went 3x Platinum and Three went 2x. It took something like 8 years for One Touch to even to Gold.

I would love to see the reunion work, I just don't think it will based on what we've seen both of 1.0, who as I've said are great singers and I love One Touch, and MKS.

It's all a bit of shambles. You have to feel bad for them considering they went with Polydor because of a guy that was passionate about their project, he apparently left before even before they released something and now they're stuck in record label hell.


One Touch was certified Gold in January 2001, fyi. It was bit of a bungled release anway, four months after Overload and two weeks before New Year. I think people look at the chart position and just assume it did horribly, but forget that it actually started it's chart run at a miserable #77 and didn't end up peaking at #26 until the Run For Cover release.

1.0 line up forever

Run For Cover is one of my favourite songs, there is a live session (either Radio 1 or 2 before it was Live Lounge) where they do RFC and Soul Sound (I think).

Oops must have read something wrong. The truth is though, it did do pretty horribly especially when you compare it to what happened to the Sugababes 2 years later.

I think Run for Cover is their best song no matter the line-up. It still sounds good today. I like Promises a lot too.

I was thinking this too as unless your a diehard sugababes fan then it's unlikely you'll remember much of 1.0. Then I heard Overload on the radio the other day and I don't even live in the UK. I have a feeling they could also be doing this to prove a point to Amelie, Jade and Heidi especially.


Yeah but it doesn't matter how talented they are, at the end of the day they are just another has been band, up there with Atomic Kitten.

They are doing it cause they enjoy mUsic, and for the money (why not).

Sales or rate of sales aren't necessarily a sign of quality, is it just possible that many listeners have went back and listened to One Touch and realized how good it actually is? Myself included. I started with Three and worked backwards.

I liked the original lineup the best and for a short while I liked the lineup with Heidi. However, I wasn't a big fan of Heidi at all. Her voice was nothing special and the tone of it does nothing for me. Once Amelle joined the group became awful. There was nothing unique or different about their sound and it was so bubblegum pop sounding. I absolutely love Mutya's voice and for em she is the star of the group. Like Keisha's too and have always loved Siobhan's.

I never claimed sales are a sign of quality. And where were all these people when Flatline came out? 15,000 people at most bought it (and I'm not saying it's not a good song because people didn't buy it).


yes and I'm sure the offers were rolling in before hand. Mutya's bankrupt and Siobhan went back to work with a person she maintained for 10 years was a bully and was the reason she left in the first place. I'm sure it was a combination of the two.

Maybe they matured and put things in me past . Remember they were 15 when they fell out .

And that would be fine, except they haven't said that. Siobhan is on record more than once saying Keisha was a bully, her first bully, she was a bitch. If Siobhan said "We've grown up and put it behind us", I would respect that more than her completely changing her story and saying nothing happened. But that is the Sugababes way of working, say something and when the line-up changes, completely change what you've been saying to benefit the line-up of the day.

None of this changes their talent but the constant contradictions they all have made, Keisha in particular, doe taint their reunion for me because I simply don't believe they are back together just for the love of performing together.

Well it's a shame because it seems you hold on to the past, and perhaps they are living in the now.

They don't owe anyone an explanation.
