How Katie H Divides Audiences
Andy_Pandy_1

In my opinion, I think the divide comes from Katie H's egocentric behaviour. Egocentric nothing to do with being egotistical but to do with the lack of ability to empathize with or accept ideas and viewpoints that doesn't fit into her world view. She said it herself that everything to her is black or white.

The thing with Katie H is that she is bright and can therefore articulate and represent her views in witty and even convincing ways. In addition, her views may tap into what the majority may believe.

A broad example would be Katie H making a statement like, "I like milk chocolate but abhor black and white chocolate. They should ban them. Anyone who likes black or white chocolate obviously have something wrong with them."

The statement will divide the audience into 3 categories:

- There are a lot (maybe even the majority of people) who like milk chocolate and dislike the others and thus will agree with the first part of Katie H's statement, but have no opinion or put little weight to the rest of her statement. Basically they care little about black/white chocolate lovers or if it gets banned.
- However there are others who may agree with Katie H's first sentence but strongly disagree with the rest because they believe it marginalizes those that might actually like black/white chocolate. These people are, in Katie H's view, the lefties.
- And then there are those who actually prefer black/white chocolate over milk. These are the people who have a real problem with Katie H. These people in Katie H's eyes are wrong and have no place in this world.

I think this is how Katie H divides the audiences. People that love her will say things like, "She's saying what we're all thinking." People that despise her, "No, what she is saying is vile and unfair."

My two cents.

She is deliberately provocative because that's what she gets paid for! Yes she lacks empathy but then she has a problem with people being nice...i.e. seems not to trust it. Shows her to be a disturbed and sad person.

I'm inclined to think that Hopkins has other issues that affect her thinking but I agree with this, she is aware of what she does and there's no way to excuse her behaviour.

I'm in the 4th category as I have honestly never heard of black chocolate.

Doesn't every housemate divide opinion?

I consider myself to be a big fan of Katie Hopkins, but I would fall into a fifth group that might totally disagree what she's said, but love the fact that she has given her true opinion regardless of how it is likely to be received. Contrary to the 'British way' of censoring & refining your opinion into something that you think people will approve of.

So what group do I fall into then? I actually like milk and white chocolate......

(I don't know what black chocolate is either, btw).

Oh she divides audiences alright. Between BNP voters and normal people.

I'm of the opinion that she not only talks out of the back of her head but contradicts herself at every turn. She is just a fool pretending to be intelligent.

Haha, I actually meant dark chocolate.

She views everything from a black and white core and only sees her truth, there's an uncanny parallel there to religion... which also divides in such a way,

Or, following on from this analogy, you don't think it might have more to do with.....

Saying that milk chocolate is wrong....then eating milk chocolate

OR

Telling people in the house which chocolate they should like....

OR

Outside the house, having very strong views on the badness of very many different types of chocolate, all around her, on display in the house, and then not saying a word about it....

OR

Outside the house, having very strong views on the badness of, say, dark chocolate, but being very selective which people in the house she criticises for eating it

Good analogy....simple....lays it bare....in black and white!

I though that was the case.

A lot of her views, I agree with, she says what others are thinking. But her constant barracking of Perez is a bit OTT.

Yep. I think she definitely says controversial things just to try and get reactions. She has to keep her way of making a living on the outside active once she leaves the house. She'll take to Twitter again and continue to be a real nasty cow.

Or funny and honest, because not everyone sees her as nasty.

Well I belong to a group who simply doesn't take her seriously, sometimes I agree with her, sometimes I don't, but that is life. I can dislike an opinion without disliking the person. I saw her on this morning talking about obesity, with a girl who was tearful, Katie took her hand and Philip remarked on it, she said the girl wants to help herself but didn't know how, when the girl talked about the personal name calling on Twitter Katie looked into the cameras and said if they were watching they would answer to her, and that needed to stop, she said she would mentor the girl in one of her fat clubs.

She has got empathy, but with people who try and help themselves. Nobody is all bad.
