Do people still care about MTV in this day and age.

Not MTV the main channel, as it seems to be just 24 hour reality (shite) tv, but I do occassionally put on one of the MTV specialist music channels. I wouldn't say i particularly care about them or would miss them if they went as there are plenty of alternatives.

Was listening to Vintage, magic last night they are relevant because you can just type a number on your remote and hear a random song but with Youtube you need to log in and find a song.

So to me they are good time fillers in between shows.

Music channels have had their day, but then that's why MTV diversified.

For bored young people at home they may be, sometimes. At least the ones that deal strictly with top 40 music.

Vintage is worth it. They also are the only ones that feature more unusual stuff, not just the generic output of other channels.

Do you mean the actual MTV channel or music television in general?
I'm sure teenagers watch a variety of the music channels depending on their musical tastes. Kerrang is often on in our house.

That's only true with channels such as The Box, Capital TV, Chart Show TV etc.

There's loads of diversity:

R&B: MTV Base, Flava, AKA
Dance: MTV Dance, Chartshow Dance, Clubland
Rock: MTV Rocks, Scuzz, Kerrang
80s/90s/00s: MTV Classic, The Vault
Older: Vintage.

There's pretty much a channel to suit every taste!

It depends on the channel.

I gave up on MTV years ago when shows like The Osbournes were considered the big shows, and it slowly descended into reality shite, as rightly put by Asarualim.

I tend to put the music channels on first thing in the morning before I go to work as I like to have some background music, and at least this way I don't get the irritating sound of a DJ who loves the sound of their voice talking crap for 5 mins. I get that all day long at work, don't need it when I'm at home.

I tend to watch MTV Hits, Chart Show TV and Now Music TV purely because they're the only channels that don't butcher the audio of the music videos. I once watched the video to Wrapped Up by Olly Murs on The Box and I haven't a clue what they'd done (well, I think they made the song faster?!!!) but the whole song sounded distorted to buggery.

So yes, they do have their uses but not for the purpose intended. It makes a nice alternative to listening to radio in the morning. I can deal with adverts, just not DJs who start talking and don't know when to shut up.

If there's nothing else on or I just need some background noise I'll put the music channels on.

Depends on the channel, I love MTV Hits/The Vault/Magic for background music when I'm cleaning.

I do (Strangely) miss the days of jukebox TV (The Box etc) - waiting all day for your song to play

I remember The Box. I had it on all the time when I was a kid. Occasionally I used to phone in and request a song. That was before the internet made music so much more accessible.

I seem to remember a music channel (if you would call it one) on Sky that you would access by pressing the red button. On the home page, you would have all these radio stations divided into genres playing music 24/7. (although to be honest I can't remember any of them)

The channel eventually ceased broadcast in light of the popularity of YouTube. This was before the rise of subscription based streaming services like Spotify and SoundCloud.

Does anyone remember this?

I used to hate the channels back in the early 00s when the actual music video would take about 60% of the screen and the rest was full of inane messages from 'viewers'. They were an absolute mess.

I don't mind them so much these days, and i'll stick them on for a bit of background. I just wish they wouldn't all show adverts at the same time.

Generally music videos don't really get the exposure they used to though. They have become quite a cheap affair now.

I think Starz was the worst channel for that! Home of chavvy text chat, all 'bbz xxx' and 'hun xxx' between the viewers and chat host.

I haven't watched music channels properly for years (since I was teen basically), I'll put it on from time to time if there is nothing else on.

MTV lost it's credability a long time ago, and it all began with Laguna Beach. To think once upon a time, this was a channel who gave us massive video stars like Madonna and MJ, and now all they rely on to grab ratings are awful reality shows and now dreadful original scripted shows.
