can't read link - but there are varying degrees of epilepsy , some very mild, that don't really affect daily life, so if she had it under control, and wanted a career and it didn't prevent her, good on her, - what you want to come across as a negative, has actually failed.

I read it now. She lied on her entry form, covered her seizures, even when she was in hospital until a medic requested permission to see her GPs notes.
She was found out and didn't pass out from Sandhurst and kicked out too.
Serves her right. She's have been in charge of men and women who rely on her be in perfect health, and able to make snap decisions.
Dislike her even more now. Her epilepsy could have cost lives. Selfish woman.

Haha knew before I even read this that some people would turn a positive into a negative. I get from the article that she is a determined woman wanting to succeed but oh well!

hmm ok, if she had regular seizures - not the right profession to be in really is it !
And it explains why she's in a separate room in the House, perhaps she takes medication and it's under control though, whereas it wasn't during the time she was at Sandhurst, it can take years to get the right medication that works , so I do sympathise with her having that condition.

no no .. the rules are if you havent had a seizure for over ten years they might pass you to join I believe... come on you cant really think a soldier who might take a fit is ok...

I lied about having Psoriasis when I joined the Royal Navy because it's an automatic failure if you have it, but still got in and had 5 brilliant years serving.

Many people lie when going for a job, either on CV's or medical conditions etc.

Just because on paper or in a rule book it says you can't do something doesn't mean you can't.

I'm not sure what to think or what to believe, she clearly says she has regular seizures at night which cause her to dislocate her shoulders, how that could be hidden from the army baffles me as she is hospitalised to have the shoulders reset according to her.

Seizures are totally different when others lives are at stake in the army than a skin condition... this is just getting silly..and this being said from someone who was in our wonderful Royal Navy, you should know better.

Why is it getting silly, because people don't see things the same way?

Her seizures may not have been as bad as they are now back then, unless someone here has her GP notes it's all speculation.

She was booted out of the army after taking a seizure at her passing out parade.https://www.epilepsy.org.uk/news/kat...t-her-epilepsy

yeah, its not as if she was a pilot flying a plane and lied about being short sighted or having cataracts-she wasn't serving on the battlefield was she ? but - we don't know how severe her condition is or was, and she may have been controlling it with medication, but she's not there now and has moved on so, all good.

So what, she had a seizure on a parade ground, big deal, at least she signed up to serve for her country and I admire her for that.

As I said, at that time her seizures may not have been as bad as they later became.

Ah ok, so her epilepsy got worse, and no lives were ever going to be at risk as she explains.

“I don’t agree that people with epilepsy are not allowed to serve under any capacity. I appreciate that you may not be able to carry a weapon and you may not be able to go on a tour of duty. But many people are very well medicated. I was qualifying into the intelligence corp, so there’s no way I couldn’t serve in some office-based intelligence role.”

Katie buckled under and continued with her education. Then, during the summer break after her first year at the academy, Katie’s seizure pattern changed. Her seizures became much more severe during one worrying moment in the middle of the night.

But it didn't, did it, she was discharged, so why people are getting so angry about it is beyond me.

Read the article - she wasn't going to be serving carrying a weapon. A family member of mine has epilepsy, works, doesn't drive for obvious reasons and functions perfectly normally thanks,on medication - I know what I am talking about. In her case her condition changed for the worse, I don't get the reason to beat her up about it. She's not in the Army now, so I won't lose sleep over it.

'behave yourself '???
daft thing to say

by her own admission she was having 6-7 absences a day minimum sometimes as many as 15

so not really all good.

Her night time seizures is a recent development. Her Epilepsy is under control with medication but unable to control the night time seizures. This is why she has a bedroom of her own.

It doesn't say anything like that in that article.

The medical officer found out from her medical records and she wasn't allowed to graduate. But she was allowed to take part in the final parade.
No mention of a seizure at the parade.

Just shows how courageous she is. It's incredible what she's managed to achieve in life despite having this horrific condition.
