I wonder why they are so popular?

Well at least we know there are lot of people with substantial amounts of disposable income (economy picking up).
I think the vast majority of iphones like most other phones people have are on contracts, so they don't buy them outright.

They are now eating into Androids market share with bigger phones. Unlike Nokia which kept coming up with crazy phones some good some bad I feel Apple can dominate for decades to come.

Even Samsung are going back to other OS's rather than Android now. I reckon Amazon could be one of Apples biggest rivals in the next decade too.
Amazon? The Fire phone they brought out was garbage and only available on the worst network in the UK! They would need to up their game seriously before they became a rival to apple!!

Samsung went with a different OS on one phone. Seems like a bit of a flop as well so far.

Not sure thats actually true - last count from memory was market share globally was Android at 80-ish percent, Apple on 12-ish percent?

Also the Chinese mega brands are coming

A pre statement report I read a few days back. As it fairly tallied on China and totals etc I well believed it,
So, pure speculation then ?

We were discussing *profit* by region, not revenue.

Which? Strongly alleged or fact? Either way, so what?
In fact it was worse.

alleged = without proof, hence strongly without proof.

It's not nonsense at all. If when British Gas/BT/SKY announced their last profits and i started a thread in an attempt to gloat about it, i would be absolutely ridiculed!!

It is quite sad people do this over a company who really doesn't give 2 hoots about you!
It's quite sad that you put all the effort to post your view on a thread you feel no one should be interested in.

As for BT/BG. Feel free to report, I have shares in both.

However, considering what apple have achieved is record breaking I think the news is slightly more significant.

With due respect I think you misunderstand where the OP is coming from. Lets take a hypothetical scenario where this forum had been full of posts for the last 2 years saying what a rubbish company Sky is and how their products are ridiculously overpriced and how they are obviously doomed, and then they turned in exceedingly good results because everyone is buying their product. Even though I am not a Sky customer I think I would be inclined to point out that the naysayers had it rather wrong.

Because nothing has ever started well, then fell on its arse later!

Anyway, I'm not saying that will happen, but that just because its apple does not mean it will be a success like a lot have said it will be.
Agreed.

Sorry sir, but I do believe it includes both profit and revenue

Could I suggest a geometric scale would be suitable on that basis for any conversion necessary

.
I disagree. Look at IBM in the early 80's, no-one would have predicted that within a decade they would be all but gone in the computer market. Despite my obvious support for Apple products in this forum I can safely predict that someone else will be number one in 20 years time. I will certainly be selling my stock in the next couple of years.

What complete and utter reality distortion field nonsense.

And Apple really are not the 100% shite unethical company you semm to make out.

But If the shareholders do not like what directors do they vote them out.
I can only assume the irony of you using terms like this is completely lost on you.

Forget about using your skills in battery management or market analysis, you would be too greater loss to the world of comedy.

Well slightly off topic but I feel Windows 10 being a free upgrade is copying Apple with it's own OS being free now.

I reckon Iphones are popular as they are easy to use tbh. Nobody moans about non removable battery's, micro sims or ITunes anymore do they?

I will be honest and say I find Google play cheaper for things ITunes just put the app prices up.

That required no effort at all

Ah, of course you do! The very 2 companies i pulled from a hat

However, considering what apple have achieved is record breaking I think the news is slightly more significant.
Not really no. Companies make huge profits all the time. And unless you do have shares in this, its pretty much non news worthy. Its only news worthy to people like you who like to gloat even though it has zero effect on you whatsoever.

Well, I've just been back to the article and I still maintain that it doesn't break down profit by region. Yes there is a total profit and revenue page but not a geographical one. No extrapolation can be made from the geographical revenue data for the very reason pointed out elsewhere that the gross margin varies geographically as well.

Well I thought it was Android like the old Nook HD+ was and like any non Google Play tablet.
So you would be calling Android garbage. Its just a Kindle phone, and Kindles are well rated.

Quality has little to do with it, there is simply 'no room in the inn' for new expensive phones, thus the price cut.

The Chinese market has been a huge growth area.

$16.1 billion in revenue from “greater China” — which includes mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan — in its first fiscal quarter, up 70% from the same period a year ago.
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/28/te...ings.html?_r=0

No doubt Apple larger screens that Steve Job's was dead against have boosted sales. Plus even larger price tags for storage will help margins too.

Over all it looks like Apple are catching up!

The two you managed to pull out the hat are two that were national companies offered by the government to the general public, I doubt I'm the only one who owns shares in those two. Maybe you are too young to remember, if so, you should ask Sid.

The broke records. It was not normal

Thing is, people say that about large companies all the time. Something i completely ignore since it has no bearing on my life whatsoever. You, i and the sensible ones know fine the results for this year would be exceptionally good and that apple are a looong way from doomed!

But the reason for this thread was just simply to start what's happened now. The opening sentence shows this. This will go on for about 80 pages full of Kid, CP, sword and alan going back and forth trading insults until the mods close it.

I'm 38 and do seem to remember that.

It did break records indeed, but i guess the problem for me in this thread was the opening sentence which unfortunately has opened this thread right up to what has always happened!

:rolleyes
Kindles are highly rated yes, but the fire phone is not. Its absolute garbage!!

I'm hardly calling Android garbage because Amazon have ruined it with silly skins and exclusively put it on the uks worst network!!

Quality has little to do with it, there is simply 'no room in the inn' for new expensive phones, thus the price cut.
There is plenty of room at the inn for expensive new phones. They just need to be good.

Ah, an irrelevant skin (all the same to me) and you do not like O2.

And BTW O2 just got the 'most reliable' accolade and 'highest customer satisfaction rating' of them all.
So O2 can't really be all bad.

edit = all the same here, so its 'satisfaction' where they are top (code for intransigent customers I guess)

It's not irrelevant.

Yeah, most reliable on 2G since their 3G lacks pretty much everywhere. And as for 4G, well that's pretty much nowhere so no point even talking about that.
