They replaced a 17 month old iPhone 5 for me late last year which had decided to become temperamental when plugging a charger in. No argument or persuasion needed, replacement cheerfully given.
I am impressed - definitely part of the reason people buy iPhones!

Some will argue that it is what you pay your extra £400+ extra for.

But as we know. they ain't waterproof, drop capable or pocket safe so people getting them wet between the ears always get short thrift

Apple Care is another £80+£55 per accident, more than the cost of a very good, far more bulletproof phone as your insurance.

Perhaps they've had enough of trying to argue against EU legislation and the sale of goods act and are just replacing them anyway. 17 months isn't that long for a high end smartphone to last, you'd expect 2+ years.

What has AppleCare got to do with it?

It is, on the paperwork the warranty status was listed as: Consumer Law Coverage(CP).

One of the benefits of buying direct, I suppose.

But they do similar things in parts of the world that are not part of the EU as well!

I seriously doubt you would get the levels of service that Apple Stores are renowned for from any other high-end smartphone manufacturer!

Why are you linking tax management with ethics?..
We all know what the main population thought about Starbucks' ethics.
What does that make Apple who dollar statistically must be 100 fold worse?

Now, that is one heck of a taxing one for this IQ thing. I really do suggest it can only be ethically accounted for by sweet twisting that can only create long term financial bitterness here in the UK.

Do we was there a major boycott of Starbucks or just the normal faux outrage.

I don't think companies should be able to avoid so much tax, however it is solely in the hands of the government. I wonder why they are so slow to react if it hurts them so much.

I've heard pretty bad horror stories about Apple's service too - where people without AppleCare have been denied repairs, even for stuff that is due to yet another Apple design flaw. In the EU/UK they have less leeway on this, but let's not pretend they have rolled over from day one - for some time their website has an article about what they think the EU and UK require them to do, and the gist of it appears to be "get AppleCare and you won't have to worry".

And honestly, I expect Apple to replace stuff that is out of warranty by a reasonable amount. They have such enormous profit margins on the devices that they can afford it.

As for other manufacturers, Google seems to be pretty good for Nexus devices these days.

It is more than Interesting that if you are outraged over Starbucks tax mischief it is fine.
But to be outraged at 100 fold worse Apple you need to be bitter and twisted.

Philosophically that sums up much of the history of mankind.

I'm not sure why you think I'm outraged over either.

I think we all know who shows the bitter and twisted behaviour on here
