make it a joint venture with BBC/ ITV.

The evenings could be set asaide for Eastenders, Corrie, Emmerdale, which would not have to be moved cause of Sport.

New Soaps could be built.

But during the daytimes, it could be a cult channel, there has been calls for Repeats of Eastenders and Corrie down the years, elderado also.

And it would then Allow BBC and ITV to develoing more Drama and Documentaries for tge Evenings and films

Been done before and was a failure although it was a mix classic British episodes and American soaps. Also don't think there would be enough to fill the schedule.

Same here, and with the Chaos surrounding the BBC moving Eastenders I thought I would get oeoples opinions.

Repeats of Elderado and Take the High Road also.

A soap chanbel, could also bring back a weekly soaps programne, with audience and actors, something simular to what Emna Kennedy used to resent

I want something like UK Gold where they air the old episodes. There are SO many classic Eastenders episodes I want to see again.

Plus I only got into Hollyoaks in 2006. I watched a few of the earlier episodes on the now defunct Sky channel Trouble (it was a teen focused channel) years ago.

I used to love watching Take The High Road on an afternoon! would love to see it again.

Maybe they could also air soaps like London Bridge. I can't see why such a channel wouldn't be a success.

My ideal soap channel would be one to feature old classics!
Vintage episodes of todays soaps along with Crossroads, General Hospital, Take the High Road and Angels.
There are plenty of U.S. soaps - Sunset Beach, Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, Dynasty, Flamingo Road etc...
Australia have plenty - Sons & Daughters, Country Practice, Young Doctors, Young Ramsay, The Sullivans, Return To Eden to name but a few!!

It could never happen - but what a dream!! They would have no problem filling the schedules....probably cost a fortune buying the rights though!!

The licensing wouldn't work.

Disney had one in the US, it was really good at first. It showed all the ABC soaps (and later on Days and Y&R) in the evening and showed reruns of Dallas, Knots Landing, Dynasty, Another World and Ryan's Hope. It was great at first but after they went through those prime time soaps a few times it got stale and they started adding shows that weren't true soaps and then when ABC decided to cancel All My Children and One Life to Live that was a big chunk of the programming gone so they turned the network into Disney Jr.

I think if handled right a Soap channel could work but showing current episodes is pointless in the age of DVR, Hulu and Youtube. They should focus on showing foreign soaps and classic canceled shows. So in England maybe they could show current Episodes of the remaining US soaps, maybe a telenovella or two then show some canceled shows like Brookside, Knots Landing, Dallas and a few others.

I think the main stumbling block is the licensing cost. If a soap channel was cheap to run then someone would already have one on air but the reality is that they'd be expensive to buy and the viewing figures would be too low to justify the channel staying on air. I brought it up in another thread before but I don't know how CBS Drama (the closest we currently have to a "soap" channel) stays on air as I've seen ad breaks between programmes where they only run promos for their own shows so obviously nobody's bought the ad space for that time period. There was also a breakdown of what ads cost on the digital channels and some of them are really really cheap (less than £50 an ad in certain timeslots).

Anyway, I digress. If there was to be a soap channel, I agree with what Mark said above. It'd have to be a mix of new episodes of soaps that aren't aired in the UK like the four remaining US daytime soaps and Shortland Street. Then the classic soaps would have to be proven ones like Dallas and Dynasty which have pulled in the viewers on UK Gold and CBS Drama over the years.
