"The Games" is in widescreen, why not "Big Brother"?

How refreshing it is to see"The Games" live feed and main events as well as supporting shows in widescreen.

The show looks ten times better in this format and "Big Brother" is going to look very outdated if the cameras in the house aren't upgraded for this years show.

Surely, if Endemol are willing to spend money on "The Games", they will do so for their most popular show.

The "Big Brother" live feed in widescreen has real potential.
You would be able to see more of the action.
What you can see on screen wouldn't be limited to whatever can fit into a 4:3 tv.

On a side note, I also like the recent ideas Endemol-run shows have used to spice up the live feed of "Celebrity Fame Academy" and "The Games".
Whenever there is a boring period where nothing is happening, say when they are all in bed mid-afternoon, they will cut to highlights packages with footage from a more active time of day, often stuff you didn't see from 7am in the morning etc., and really when there is no action, it's pointless to watch. They then go back to the live feed as soon as life returns.
They also bring up titles such as the leader board and they introduce the trainers with their own caption.

Big Brother could use titles to explain what's happening in tasks on the live feed, put the contestants name up on screen at the beginning while we all get familiar with them and other uses that would all and all help the continuity of the live feed.

But, I think this year, if the show is not in widescreen, it's going to begin to look incredibly dated.

Totally agree that it's going to begin to look dated. Isn't it something to do with technology though? I don't know the ins and outs of it all, but I'd be happy if they just didn't zoom in so close and then cut off the top and bottom.

Because the extra screen space would provide a clearer image of Nadia flinging the table over.....

Good point Mesostim.

So I've been told by the girls....a few inches don't make that much difference anyway

I would prefer to see extra feeds on the interactive service than a few more inches of screen if I had to choose...

There is no question that it is possible for Big Brother to be filmed in widescreen, so I think it's all down to commissioning. When series 3-6 were commissioned it must have been agreed Big Brother would be made in 4:3 - so perhaps next year it will change!

P.S... The Games also have a very nice house!

Sorry all, but I received this e-mail from C4 on March the 4th.

Quote:
“There are no plans for Endemol to film it in widescreen but I shall certainly pass your commetns on to them.”

Oh, that's sucks big time. Well, maybe for BB7...

So we have to put up with either letterboxed 4:3 on our widescreen tellies or use those horrible "smart/panoramic" modes that stretch 4:3 to pseudo 16:9.
I never much liked them myself.

However, after viewing "The Games" in widescreen through RGB scart at home, it made me realise what we are missing with BB only being in 4:3.
I don't think it's acceptable for C4 to have one of their most popular shows broadcast in 4:3.

Good point about Nadia knocking over the table in the last series, you would have caught many other things like this as well.

At this rate, we will be watching "The X factor" in HDTV widescreen and "Big Brother" will still be in 4:3.
