"Lady Gaga fans, "look away now."

I'm posting this for the benefit of the few jazz fans on this board.

He came up in a discussion on another board.
I thought he was one of the best traditional jazz trumpeters The photograph of Mick includes the image of George Melly, on the right.

I remember seeing Mick and the band, when I was still at school in the fifties. I was with my parents on holiday in Hastings. The band with George the band's vocalist, were appearing at the "White Rock Pavilion." George, always "larger than life" was great, he sang the song for which he will always be remembered, "Frankie and Johnny." It amused me that in renditions in much later life George no longer executed the "prat fall" when he sang the line "and she shot her lover down."
George's first auto biography "Owning Up" his time with the band is an entertaining read. It went out of print but was later included in a compilation with his other two biographies.
