Hey,

Ever since I updated to Android L 5.0 I have been having major battery issues (As have friends of mine). Take yesterday for example, By dinner time I had sparingly used my phone but I was at 15% battery life with the main culprits being Google play services (20%), Android OS (12%) and Android System (6%). The phone has got to a point where it's actually unusable.

I have tried battery saving apps to force phone into deep sleep but nothing is working. Also I don't want to have to disable things I use as the phone worked perfectly fine with these previously.

Thanks for any suggestions you have.

Are you on 5.0 or 5.0.1? Neither has fixed it entirely but 5.0.1 is less bad.

Some discussions are suggesting that it may be third-party apps that have not updated yet that are causing the battery drain issue, although since you list Google Play Services and Android OS as the top offenders this is possibly not the case here. When is the last time you gave your phone a reboot?

The issue is really frustrating because when this phantom battery drain isn't happening (which for me is probably 7 days in every 10 or so), the battery life under Lollipop is excellent, even on the notoriously-not-great-for-battery Nexus 5. But on those other 3 in 10 days where it randomly decides to hit me, my phone is usually in Battery Saver mode not long after I leave work. Given that I barely use the damn thing at work, I am hoping that (a) 5.0.2 or .3 fixes this for good, and (b) it arrives very, very quickly!

I hate to say it but you might find you need to do a factory reset. Sometimes you can get away without it following firmware upgrades but I've had similar battery issues with phones of mine and normally they can be resolved by a full reset.

I have the same if not better battery than 4.4.4. I have alot of stuff disabled though which i'll never use.

I get 3 hours OST on 4G/3G then 5 hours on wifi. A combination of the two will be somewhere in between. The phone easily lasts me a day, I have seen alot of people complaining about it though.

EDIT: I reboot my phone every night ( people have mentioned a memory leak bug).

Thanks for the replys,

I am running Android 5.0.1 but I have been getting the bug since 5.0.0. It doesn't happen every day for me either, probably half of the time (well it feels like that anyway). I have tried resetting which helps some but have not tried a factory reset as I can't be bothered with the hassle of re-installing all my apps (I wish it worked like iOS).

I will try resetting my phone every night to see if that helps, if not I will try the factory reset as in its current state it's useless (especially as I can't carry a spare battery with me).

Cheers
