The Fallacy that popularity equates worth

Repeatedly tonight the fact that Katie H was the most popular HM was cited as, variously, justification for her ISOLATE HIM commands and proof that there's another side to KH that the hls don't show. Let's, for the moment ignore the fact that the one contradicts the other, and examine the jist of the point.

BB is like a secondary school. You're forced into these associations and you work with what you've got. The most domineering and potentially abusive individuals are always popular. Think back. It's not affection as we understand real adult relationships, it's a combination of admiration for the resilience of the person, recognition of their ability to damage and fear of the consequences of being on their wrong side.

This was not my experience of school. Those who dominate and are 'potentially abusive' are intimidating if they rule with fear. Another word for it might be a bully.

I think you are dressing up what Hopkins is e.g admiration for her resilience. Resilience to what? She is now the oppressor!

The only redeeming facet I see to her is regarding her being upset when someone compliments her....this is more than just feeling uncomfortable but hints at something badly not quite right there. She has even been close to tears when complimented....I wonder if she has been deprived of love in the past and it gets too much to hear a compliment?

Re. the title of the thread that popularity may or may not equate to worth. If Hopkins wins there are many that will be very disappointed since she has been shown to be a bully and a bigot so, her popularity would indicate that others like this resonate with these dreadful qualities and have hence voted for her. A real dumbing down of what BB once was.

And were the bullies popular?

I dislike Katie H as much as I did Dave the monk. I think she's an insidiously harmful Individual. I agree with you that there are indications that she was herself harmed somehow in the past, but her attempts at empathy, while amusing in terms of her tendancy to overreach, are quite chilling,

Depends what you mean by popular. I guess people tried to join them rather than be picked upon.

Yes Hopkins view of being nice is that it is fake. I was thinking about it today, since I know someone online who is quite nasty and talks of "playing nice". Very revealing. This person too obviously cannot believe that people ARE genuinely nice but just play at it. It's maybe because they do not have that quality in them that they cannot acknowledge/believe that others do. Either that or they are in deep denial. Very sad.

Getting to the source of the matter, it was a loaded question on BB's part. The HMs were apparently asked who they thought was the most popular. (Presumably they had to vote for one or more HMs to avoid a tie.) This is entirely different from asking the HMs who they like the most, then calling the one with the most votes the most popular.

It's like an election where, instead of voting for the candidate you support, you vote for who you think will win the election.

I think you've just hit Katie H bang on the money. She visibly struggles with empathetic situations.

I don't know what school you went to but when I was at school I hung around kids that liked the same music as me and who I actually liked. No one ever forced me into any associations and I never forced anyone. None of the kids I knocked around with were domineering or potentially abusive to me or anyone else. I'm not even sure if we had any kids with an ability to cause damage in the whole school, unless you count the girl who bought her 18 year old boyfriend to school one afternoon to deal with a 13 year old who called her a name that rhymes with witch. But we all joined together in an act of solidarity and chased him off. that's proof of how nice we were at my school.

LMSO. You should write programme reviews. Summed up in two lines.

I'll be honest ... I did struggle to read the first paragraph (not a slight at all, my english is horrid so really not having a go), but having re read it a few times I get your point. I was a bully in high school and it was fear more than anything that made me seem popular.
Just wait for the new big shark to show and all of KH people will swim away....

Entitlement: Narcissists hold unreasonable expectations of particularly favorable treatment and automatic compliance because they consider themselves special. Failure to comply is considered an attack on their superiority, and the perpetrator is considered an "awkward" or "difficult" person. Defiance of their will is a narcissistic injury that can trigger narcissistic rage. Very much like Katie H.

I think it's a combination of the perceived popularity of Hopkins aligned with the notion that Perez is universally hated (though he has done nothing in the house to deserve that) that encourages weak people to hide under the shadow of Hopkins.

And it is indeed a shadow. Only dark, no light. When the sheep leave the house to be questioned by rational, normal human beings only then will they understand how they have collectively, completely f***ed up.

This 21st century thing of calling anyone that somebody dislikes a narcissist is a very interesting meme. They all seem to quote from the same internet entry as well.

I find this quite interesting, and it reminds me a lot of something I heard Stepen Fry say in interview recently. Saying something that's statistically quite possibly true is nonetheless true by virtue of beibg hackneyed. There's a reason why old wives tales become old wives tales andm i the modern narrative, there's a reason memes become memes,

I like Fry but I don't see how stating the obvious makes him any less guilty of those he is demeaning. Modern memes are hilariously uncreative and worse, immature. I dislike the modern practice of elevating oneself by lowering the efforts of others while offering no solution to anything at all.

I don't get your point, tbf, there are some universal truths and observations that enter our universal consciousness, and end up being disseminated in a simplistic version that will never negate their truth.

What a brilliantly honest response! I was also at 13/14 part of the cool gang. Then I was streamed into higher level subjects and the leader of the pack was unimpressed and ordered that I be isolated. And I was. And it was horrible. Taught me a lot about human nature.

So you mean to say that cats like being recorded so that humans can laugh at them on Youtube?

Modern memes aren't universal truths. They have a lot more in common with old wives tales and often take liberties with the truth to suit an unseen agenda.

One of us has misunderstood the definition of meme. It could be me,but I'm not sure.
