Lol, I don't even think the vocals were pre.recorded, it was the studio tape of her vocals.
I agree with the op about the performance, maybe a second song with Lenny, American Woman, had been a better option. |

This was katys best performance ever. She will not top those vocals ever again, was she lip syncing?

I thought that it was a great performance .... Her vocals were good too. It clearly was produced with many past highlights reimagined and some new original moments too. And to its credit it worked really well. The girl did good.
Dark Horse choregraphy and tiled floor effect ( Madonna - Vogue) Katy flying around the stadium on a rocket (Michael Jackson - jet pack) Rocky Jam session with fire - I kissed a Girl ( Beyonce and Prince) Missy Elliott silhouette to smoke bomb and fire (very Beyonce) I adored her originality too: Katy Perry on Giant Puppet Tiger ( reminded me of Take That Elephant on The Circus tour) Katy Cartoon Island - for California Girls and Teenage Dream What would I have changed? Extended Lenny Kravitz and Katy Perry rock section - maybe include HotNCold or ET? Reduce Missy Elliott Section and mix Get Your Freak On with 'Part of Me' |

Her vocals were good because she lip-synched the entire thing, how can people not tell? It was Glee levels of bad.

Absolutely terrible performance. Stick to what you do best Katy love, recording. Singing live just isn't doing it for you.
And the background stuff? Christ, what a waste of money, time and effort. She's supposed to be a "singer" so why doesn't she just "sing!"? Oh because she can't.... |

I thought it was a great, fun performance. I do think on the fact of it, it actually was a better show than Madonna's and Beyonce's (who I am a big fanboy of so no blinkers here).
Though as much as I like some of Missy Elliot's stuff - what was the point? Three minutes of KP's 12 minute show spent on someone who hasn't had a hit in 10 years? Bit of an odd choice! |

3 Missy Elliott - Work It 00 Shows us and todays royalty, Nicki Minage and Iggy how god she was in her prime.
4 Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On (LP Version) 5 Missy Elliott featuring Ciara & Fat Man Scoop - Lose Control |

No she didn't.
Lip syncing is commonplace in big shows. |

I'm not a massive Katy Perry fan but I've watched it and I really enjoyed it. I'd be proud if I was her.

She didn't sing, period. She didn't sing a single note live, only the shouts to the audience, honestly like I said, her lip-synching was obvious, maybe more obvious to me because I find it so easy to spot nowadays. Didn't help that she was pretty bad at it anyway. And she did the classic trick of putting her hand near the top of the mic to hide her mouth a lot of the time as well.

Given the logistics of a wifi connection for the mic, considering the angles and distances covered, in my opinion It would be impossible to maintain a consistent sound level. She mimed. "It wasn't a problem it was a show." |

I think some people forget that it really is a show.
Of course like many things in life, people sitting in their homes think they know best. They work 9-5 jobs but they can tell a multi millionaire how to do their jobs. Just laughable. |

To be fair I doubt there are many 9-5 jobs the multi-millionaire in question would be qualified to tell people how to do.

People can get carried away with "the moment," particularly if they are fans.

Really this line of argument is so boring. As DR below points out, it was a show. It sounded great and it was entertaining. That's all that matters here, apart from Pete Caroll's ridiculous call on Seattle's last play of the game.
Did you see Tom Brady's house, pictured during the programme? "It's got a refuse bin enclosure to die for." https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=to...%3B3000%3B2028 |

Seatle's last play wasn't mimed, it was telegraphed.

I guess that's even bigger than Katy Perry's pad, but Brady may be the best QB ever!
I'm married to a Patriots fan...the screams at that last interception! Someone bought me a key ring fob, a little 4" bear dressed in a 49ers helmet an a number 16 shirt with "Montana" on the back. I guess they must have sold hundreds of thousands of 'em. It hung from the rear-view mirror of a succession of my cars until the shirt completely faded. |

Interesting post of Greg Wells to Lefsetz Quote:
greg_wells
@greg_wells My response to @lefsetz's sloppy and inaccurate critique of Katy's Super Bowl show: Having worked closely with her for over ten years on all of her albums, I can attest that Katy Perry writes all of her own songs. She's performing our song "By The Grace Of God" this Sunday night on the Grammys, a confessional song about hitting bottom and feeling suicidal after your husband divorces you with a single text. She's smart enough to collaborate with other great writers, but anyone who works with her can tell you Katy drives the ship. She writes the melodies, the lyrics, has the song concept months before writing it, tells the producers what the tracks should sound like, what they shouldn't sound like, and is the real deal. Your writing is the murkiest sludge of being confidently opinionated, vaguely mean spirited, and completely mis/uninformed. You have no idea that Katy writes her own material and authoritatively claim she doesn't? Due diligence works wonders for authorial credibility. You also don't seem to quantify a distinction between art and entertainment. Katy isn't trying to be Leonard Cohen on a major network sports show featuring 300 pound sweaty men slamming into each other. Here's the lyric to "By The Grace Of God" that I watched Katy write every word of: By The Grace Of God Was 27, surviving my return of Saturn a long vacation didn’t sound so bad was full of secrets locked up tight like Iron Mountain running on empty, so out of gas thought I wasn’t enough found I wasn’t so tough laying on the bathroom floor we were living on a fault line and I felt the fault was all mine couldn’t take it anymore By the grace of God (there was no other way) I picked myself back up (I knew I had to stay) I put one foot in front of the other and I looked in the mirror and decided to stay wasn’t gonna let love take me out that way I thank my sister for keeping my head above the water when the truth was like swallowing sand now every morning, there is no more mourning oh, I can finally see myself again I know I am enough possible to be loved it was not about me now I have to rise above let the universe call the bluff yeah, the truth’ll set you free By the grace of God (there was no other way) I picked myself back up (I knew I had to stay) I put one foot in front of the other and I looked in the mirror and decided to stay wasn’t gonna let love take me out, oh, that way, No, that way, no Not in the name of love In the name of love That way, no, That way, no I am not giving up By the grace of God (there was no other way) I picked myself back up (I knew I had to stay) I put one foot in front of the other and I looked in the mirror and decided to stay wasn’t gonna let love take me out that way |
