Tom Tom Go

I've just treated myself to a Tom Tom Go from Halfords - £157.99. During the process of setting it up I read that I will need a Smart phone to complete the set-up. I have a Samsung Galaxy which I assume is Android. Does this mean that I won't be able to use the Tom Tom? If so, shouldn't the assistant have checked with me first?

I think the smartphone bit is for the live traffic updates. Nothing that will stop you using it as a normal sat nav without it connected.
However Android phones are smartphones so I'm a little confused by what you are asking.

Why make 2 threads in different parts of the forum?

As you have a smartphone why do you think you won't be able to use it?

Depending on th exact model it sounds like it's needed for the traffic updates. Without a smartphone you won't get them unless it's one of the more expensive models which have a SIM built in for them,

It would've been cheaper to buy the Tom Tom app on Android!

Go into your phones Bluetooth menu, link it to the Tom-Tom like you would do with any Bluetooth device then turn on Bluetooth tethering, and you will then have live traffic showing on your satnav.

I use mine nearly every day with a 3-2-1, 3 PAYG sim that I topped up last spring with £10 and still have £4 credit so cost very little in Mb data as I use a old Android that is left in the car and has no other duty but to serve the Tom-Tom.

Many thanks for your helpful replies. It seems I may not be very smart!
