Just decided to put in some votes for Calum because of these posts.

For his father's sake.

I didn't mean you personally Crash, i meant that in a year of mainly unlikeable HMs, a lot of people are fed up of unpleasant people ruling the roost, even i'm 'desperate' to find someone likeable. Callum has mainly been a bore, with the odd temper tantrum over nothing much. He's been spineless. Comparatively he's not as ghastly as some in there but that doesn't make him an interesting or likeable HM for me, and quite a few other FMs.
Whilst it's lovely to read how people have wonderful memories of George Best, it doesn't make Callum look any less foolish when he loses his cool over being teased about his shoes.
He comes across as entitled without having anything to back up the attitude.
Nice little dig about hyperbole from one wanting to be reasonable.”

Not a dig: your initial comment was in reference to my posts and your phrasing, using words like desperate and re-writing history could be considered a bit OTT especially if you read back on what I've been trying to discuss over the course of a page or two... a guy in a gameshow. This wasn't a talk on who shot JFK; it was me trying to figure out why Calum acts the way he does and also my standpoint would be that he's far less of a gameplayer then a few of the others. He's just an insecure young man and his father's shadow over him is important - to me at least - when I think of how he's acted in the house.

I wasn't trying to make him likeable. In agreement with you when you mention he's been fairly spineless and allowed himself to be drawn into a situation where he's been heavily manipulated by certain individuals, but I think the whole sensitivity and temper issues are directly related to his parentage and past. A wounded child kinda situation which is why he reacted the way he did about the whole shoe thing which yes, was really pathetic.

Not excusing some of his behaviour in there but just trying to understand him, especially when I don't think he's as bad as some of the rest.

It looked like a dig, especially as it wasn't just your post i was alluding to which was why i chose to respond to eva rather than littering up the thread with some massive multi-posting post of attrition. As i said earlier i used "desperate" for it's meaning "without hope", the "re-writing of history" referred to the complete absence of any acknowledgement to his behaviour, it appears you read my post wrong and i read your post wrong...more on this later.
why do you assume i haven't read your posts?
I have read them, i just don't think having a famous alcoholic father justifies behaving like an entitled bore so i didn't comment on those posts.

I wasn't discussing it as if we were talking about "who shot JFK", you were the one delving into the father relationship and the psychology, but until this last post above, you were glossing over any behaviour issues he had displayed, so it read like a justification. Apologies if it wasn't, but that's how it came across to me: "don't be mean about poor Callum his dad was super talented how awful for him".

To me his presence in the house has been one of waiting it out till he gets the cheque, doing as little as possible and causing the least damage to the public perception of him as possible. To me, that's why he was so angry with Perez, because the façade cracked a bit wider. I don't see him as insecure at all, i see him as vain and entitled. The least little criticism and his anger surges out.

Apologies if i have written in a tone of voice that was ambiguous, the post you took issue with was directed at Eva who i have discussed things with before and knows i am fairly light hearted and tongue in cheek, as you say it's only a tv show.

i never for one moment tried to urge people not to judge him poorly or sway their opinions because of his past circumstances and stated in every post that he's been a wally and not done himself any favours in the show. All I was trying to describe was his background and how that could have an influence on his behaviour which I think is a fair enough point to make, especially since it ties in to alot of what he's said and done in the house: worrying about people's perception of him; the anger and the sensitivity. I believe he is a insecure fella rather than an intentionally devious or manipulative individual. The fact that he's not too bright and easily manipulated himself doesn't help matters and I'd imagine he won't enjoy viewing it all back. I'd also imagine that he's beginning to realise what a tit he's been too. So yeah, maybe he'll learn from it, who knows? Doubtful though cuz he's been on his fair share of reality shows at this stage. I see a sad fella really, not a particularly nasty one.

Good for you. You could use the money to put flowers on his grave instead of giving it to C5

Hi planets and CrashDavis,

I see that two very constructive and level-headed posters have become entangled over the Dude; as it appears that you have both read each others posts different to what each of you actually intended.

Importantly, you both agree that the Dude is spineless!

I can indeed confirm that planets style of posting is very 'tongue in cheek' and frequently seeks to lighten the mood when exchanges get somewhat heavy.

An apology has been offered by one party, could t'other party PLEASE accept and ideally do likewise?

As you both say 'it's only a tv show.'

Hope everyone enjoys tonight's episode.

Eva.
