Perez, Michelle and the LGBT Community
In society we have oppressed groups and privileged groups. Sometimes members of the privileged groups feel sympathy for those in oppressed groups and want to join them to help them out. However, because these people are socialised to feel a sense of superiority over the members of the oppressed group they cannot stop themselves acting with a sense of entitlement over the people they want to help. They start to speak over members of the oppressed group and then assume they can speak for them. Soon they want to assume their rightful place as the leader of the oppressed group and anyone who challenges this, or isn't grateful enough that a member of a privileged group wants to 'help' an oppressed group, is ostracised and ousted from their own movement. In the end nothing changes; the privileged have power and a voice and the oppressed know their place.
Basically Perez nailed Michelle and her appropriation of the LGBT cause. Be an ally but don't take over. |

An interesting debate chacha.
The thing is, someone who has a voice that can be heard for whatever reason can highlight or promote a cause. And it does make a difference. But on a reality show it's not good to use that spotlight as a self serving platform of oneself under the guise of a cause. So, I see your point. |
